Some Thoughts on Feminism and Women's Rights

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

Even nowadays the standing of women in our society is different than that of men. Both genders are still, though to a lesser extent, brought up differently and as a result the society’s future expectations of them vary.

The only reason there are such distinct differences in the way women and men behave is because of society’s pressure on the individual to preserve the gender stereotypes that have been constructed and accepted throughout the years.

Society tends to confront each gender’s actions with much different criteria; there are things that are expected or acceptable for one gender but inexcusable for the other:

Women's rights should not even exist; they are created with the presupposition that woman is the weak/lesser sex that has to be empowered through this kind of unfair support.

Essentially, this social construct that allows special treatment to women and favors them at the expense of men, has opposite results than what was originally intended, since it makes women believe and act as if they are actually lesser than men.

We are all human beings and therefore should be treated equally despite gender; it is time for people to move on and leave behind the social structures and stereotypes that promoted inequality and suppressed both men and women for so many years.

People should be able to live the life they chose to; free of anyone’s expectations of them, especially if they are formed solely by the factor of gender.

PS: I'm only talking about the current-affairs retarded sort of feminism that is predominant in western countries (without disrespecting any of the struggles of the past, as women actually did not have equal rights back then), that has reached mostly ridiculous proportions, that are counterproductive in elevating women in our society.

Ok, nice article. but, sorry women, it's too late, damage is done, we men are tired of being treated like crap. Let's wait for western society , as we know it today, to fall, then we'll talk about real equality. No more White Knights and Princes on white horses.

Hi, I'm new here on Steemit and I find your views really interesting. I'm also a feminist blogger, so I would really appreciate to get a follow back from someone like you who does great articles like this one here. Thanks!

Thank you :3

Let me just say: the dictionary definition of Feminism is- the advocacy of women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. That’s it. What you’re thinking of (putting women ahead of men instead of equal to them) is called misandrism. The fact that you believe that men being more feminine builds up the assumption that you are, in fact, a misandrist, upholding the standards of a “manly-man taking care of his little house wife” that are still in action today the same way they were in the 1950’s. If you think you know what feminism is so well, why don’t you provide a more solid argument on what it is compared to what you are. On another note, feminists don’t want to “feminize men”, we want to establish that being a man who is more feminine is okay. That it’s not wrong to be who you are just because of what you’ve been taught by society from a young age.

I didn't know we studied history on the dictionary? What about studying all the disasters and horrible remarks this dangerous marxism made in more than half a century in the western world. Did you ever read the "Scum manifesto"? Did you ever see all the laws that favor women? All the female quotas? All the female only scholarships? Did you ever study the divorce and single mom stats in USA and Europe?
The dictionary.....c'mon!!!

Nothing wrong with feminine men, I love them actually, and would encourage anyone to express themselves freely in any direction!

I believe you misunderstood me..

Thanks for sharing these thoughts. Made me bristle a bit. Got me to read this Wiki on Third Wave Feminism. My partner often shares ideas and articles about some of it's prominent issues. Have an awesome one and I hope you find the perfect teaching position you mentioned seeking in your intro.

God! I can be so f'n passive aggresive. I should probably just remove everything in the above comment following Third Wave Feminism. But it's such a good example of passive-aggressiveness. You are mad educated and can probably hand me my ass on a platter. Maybe you will. I'm (a little bleary-eyed and) feeling frustrated that the trending posts (or is it the hot ones?) on contemporary feminism here at the moment seem to be against it.

So, who thinks women would give up privileges because they are objectively unfair? We are only here today because our female ancestors squeezed maximum utility out of their men.

In fact they won't. They are seeing that they've gone too far and men are getting tired of these female privileges, but it's too late.

I'm only talking about the current-affairs retarded sort of feminism that is predominant in western countries (without disrespecting any of the struggles of the past, as women actually did not have equal rights back then), that has reached mostly ridiculous proportions, that are counterproductive in elevating women in our society.
