Grilled Fries Not Fried

in #vegan9 years ago (edited)

We haven't eaten deep fried foods in about four years, except perhaps for one or two slips. But seriously who doesn't love french fries? Here in Quebec you are nobody if you don't consume poutine with a number of different toppings to choose from depending on your mood. Even vegans can have vegan poutine with vegan cheese and vegan gravy.

I am not a huge fan anyway but I do often get that hankering for a plate of " chips" or " fries ", depending on where you live.

Today we used the grill to make some grilled chips. We coated them lightly with a marinade that we whipped up, with just a little olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, hot peppers, sea salt and a little vidalia onion salad dressing that was lying around.

We also had some tempeh given to us by our friend who still works at the place that we just left, where we cooked vegan food products. So we grilled that too brushing on the marinade that we used for the potatoes.

I kid you not, this was not lacking that deep fried satisfaction. You wouldn't even know that it wasn't deep fried. The marinade added a great flavor and the tempeh was delicious grilled. The best part is it doesn't leave you with the feeling that you get when your stomach is full of greasy food.

We even had room for a papaya smoothie with chia. We combined Papaya, lime juice, coconut water and a tablespoon of soaked chia seeds. It had the flavors of Mexico to get us extra pumped to go there in twelve more days.
