Hello friends, with the recent release of the film Bohemian Rhapsody, I want to take this opportunity to talk about a small biography of this legendary British rock band, which left a mark on the history of music. Including interesting information about their incredible vocalist Freddie Mercury.

Queen was a band formed in 1970 by singer Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, the following year joins bassist John Deacon. It was characterized by its musical diversity, multilayered arrangements, vocal harmonies, and interaction with the public in their concerts. It was considered a band of great influence on the impulse of hard rock and heavy metal, incorporating elements of glam rock, progressive rock, folk, blues, pop and even reggae.

After seeing the light of the albums Queen and Queen II in the early '70s, which achieved success in Britain. Their first worldwide hit came in 1974 with the album "SHEER HEART ATTACK" with the singles "Killer Queen" and "Now I'm Here". Reaching number 12 on the US charts with the hit "Killer Queen".

“It had 6 sections without chorus: With an introduction to cappela, a ballad, a guitar solo, an operatic segment, a rock section. The guitar solo of this song has been considered one of the best of all time. For their success they made an unusual video for their time, since there were no chains like MTV.”

The next album, "A Day At The Races", released in 1976 was another big hit, with the single, "Somebody To Love". Then, in 1977, the release of "News of the World" reached the top ten with its double "We Will Rock You", written by Brian May, and "We Are The Champions" by Mercury. "Champions" became an icon of the gay rights of the time and is still in force, and today is also used as an anthem for sports teams "champions" around the world. In 1978, they got more success, with Queen's way with the double release of Jazz "A Fat Bottomed Girls" and "Bicycle Race".

Although this last work obtained hard criticisms by the experts, mainly by the magazine "Rolling Stone" that catalogued it as "Jazz Fascist", they did not take it very seriously and in the end it does not diminish its popularity, reaching at the end of the '80s its maximum popularity in the United States. They sold an huge amount of albums, achieving several gold and platinum albums, and leaving a mark on the music, which could be enjoyed in several generations of Hard Rock and successful metal bands in the next 2 decades, such as Metallica and Smashing Pumpkins.

In the early '80s "The Game" was released and became their first number one album in the United States. It also contained four hit singles, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" a song similar to the "Elvis" style. They also played "Another One Bites the Dust" and "Play the Game". In the video of this last song, Mercury appears for the first time with his famous moustache. A fourth song "Save Me" was another British hit. For some reason, this would be Queen's last major album in the United States and, as the eighties passed, they faded with the new musical currents.

On April 23, 1982, take a radical turn, releasing "HOT SPACE" which got a gold record, the album turns the original concept of the band taking a rhythm almost "Disco" mixed with a great rhythmic base, based on synthesizers. In this work David Bowie participated in the production of the single "Under Pressure" one of the best songs of Queen in the 80s. This is followed by "Las Palabras de Amor" (With chorus in Spanish), and Put Out The Fire.

Subsequently and after the members of the band decided to do solo work, always denying its possible break, comes to light on February 27, 1984, the album "The WORKS" which included his great hits such as "Radio Ga-Ga", "It´s a Hard Life", "Hammer To Fall", and the famous song that has become an anthem of the countries of the world ... "Want To Break Free". This album marked the band's return to its origins in rock music, although its impact was somewhat light in the United Kingdom and North America; in South America had greater acceptance among the public with the hits Radio Ga - Ga, It's a Hard Life and I Want to Break Free.

In September 1984, Queen began her "The Works Tour" which included continents and cities not visited by accidental groups, which included Africa, South America, Oceania and Asia. Already in January 1985 the band participates in the first edition of "Rock in Rio", in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), going on sale later the VHS "Queen Live in Rio".

On July 13, 1985 and after a brief break the band decides to perform a Mega concert called "Live Aid" to raise funds for the benefit of East African countries, specifically Ethiopia and Somalia. The first presentation took place at the Wembley Stadium in London (England), with an audience of 72,000 people in the compound and was seen on television by more than 1.9 million viewers, the largest television audience in history so far.

In this concert they shared the stage with the highest stars of the moment such as Madonna, Elton John, Phil Collins, Sting etc. The performance in these concerts was catalogued by the specialized press and several important artists such as Elton John as the best in the history of live music. Freddie Mercury's charisma and artistic gifts such as his melodious voice captivated the audience making a show worth remembering.

At that time Queen was already ranked one of the best rock bands in the world, if not the best.

The next year, specifically on June 2, his album Numero 11, called "Kind of Magic", was released and was not well received in the United States, but continued to be successful in Europe. The album contained songs that appeared in the movie "Los Inmortales" directed by Russell Mulcahy and interpreted by Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Among their successes we have: "One Vision", published in November 1985. A Kind of Magic" and "Princes of the Universe" were also released.

After the release of this album Queen, makes a tour called "Magic Tour" where the largest display of lights in the trajectory of the band, plus a giant screen in several parts of the tour and the use of more than 12 cameras, plus a helicopter to capture aerial shots, this show is considered as one of the best and most unforgettable presentation of the band, with an attendance of 150,000 people in the 2 days that lasted the concert at Wembley Stadium, London, tickets were sold in just three hours. In this presentation Freddie Mercury could be seen in his mythical suit for which he is remembered.

At the end of 1986 he announces that they would no longer give concerts for the moment, because Mercury was a little tired from the intensive dedication in their presentations, and they return to dedicate each of them to solo productions.

As a result of these works, it was possible to enjoy a song by Freddie with Montserrat Caballé, in Barcelona, Spain. That later became the official theme of the 92 Olympics in Barcelona.

His 12th album came out on May 22nd 1989, he stayed for 32 weeks in the UK's number 1 charts and got the platinum album, the most successful single was "I Want it All" followed by "Breakthru", "The Invisible Man", "Scandal" and "The Miracle". All songs were credited to "QUEEN" and not to a particular member. All songs were credited to "QUEEN" and not to a particular member.

On the cover of the album you can see the faces of the members merging, thus demonstrating the unity between them.

By this time Mercury's health was progressively deteriorating, he was said to have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at Easter 1987. He looked tired, sad and quiet.

Despite his deteriorating state of health, Freddy insists on making another record production, which was released on February 4, 1991 under the name "Innuendo", during the release of this album increased rumors about Mercury's disease, although he denied the fact on several occasions. But his emaciated state of health and the fact that they did not tour or perform anymore increased rumours in the British press.

The album "Innuendo" had significant success only in the UK reaching number 1 for several weeks and getting the platinum album. The lyrics of the songs in general are autobiographical of Freddie Mercury's life, including the homonymous "Innuendo" which would be the longest song produced by the band.

November 24, 1991, was a tragic day for fans of the band and music in general, Freddie Mercury's death is announced after wrestling with this terrible disease for years. The media spread the tragic news all over the planet and the world mourned his loss. On November 27th his remains were cremated at the West London Crematorium.

Freddy left a large fortune that was, for the most part, divided between his closest relatives and the foundation that bears his name, which is dedicated to AIDS research. After his death, there was a reissue of the song "Bohemian Rhapsody", the single reached number 1 in sales for several weeks, supposedly the success of the reissue for that moment to pay tribute to Mercury, was the appearance of the single in the movie "Wayne's World" in which the characters Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey) sing along with some friends "Bohemian Rhapsody".

In April 1992 a tribute to Mercury is made with a concert at Wembley Stadium, where artists of the caliber of Elton John, Annie Lennox, Robert Plant, Gun's & Roses, Paul Young, Extreme, Metallica, David Bowie and George Michael participated. They performed Queen's mythical songs. The funds raised by this event were donated to the Freddie Mercury Foundation, in favor of investigations against AIDS.

The last production of the film was practically "From Heaven", it adopted this name because before his tragic death Freddie insisted and almost forced others to make him sing as much as possible to complete future projects. It seems unethical to do this to an AIDS sufferer, but he stated on several occasions:

"I don't know how to clean up, I'm not a good cook, I'm just a music prostitute, what else can I do?"

In this way he left enough material for his companions to arrange a new production ironically called: "Made in Heaven" which had a great success at Christmas 1995, thus closing the last page of its history. And thus leaving his last legacy.
