Open Mic Week 51 - "You are not alone" - original song (raw and unrehearsed)
This is an off-the-cuff performance of a song I wrote for my sister to support her and lift her up after a suicide attempt. Depression is a suffocating blanket that is hard to remove, a blanket which slowly covers up more and more and wraps you up tighter and tighter. I know that reaching out is easier said than done, but I wish my sister had reached out to me before things got to the state that they did - and I truly hope this song serves as a reminder to anyone out there battling the demon that you are not alone. There are people in your life that love you. You are not alone.
I was not planning on performing this song this week, it was a last second decision and I didn't rehearse the song or what I would say as an introduction first. It has been a struggle this week to find a window to record, and this was no exception - Thing Two had woken up early from his nap, I handed him a bottle of milk before turning on the camera and you can hear him burbling away at times. At one point he really chimes in and I give him a smile - I was thinking about channeling all the love I was feeling for him and my sister into the song. Hope it comes through.

Between the rather touching introduction and thing-2’s sweet and audible presence at your side – when you began playing and singing I just couldn’t hold back the tears. Beautiful song for a beautiful purpose! Well done due in part to the tears of joy and sorrow that this song is likely to evoke… One more time - BEAUTIFUL!

Beautiful song man. I hope your sis doing well now. I was barely recuperating from your open mic 50 which I THINK WAS THE MOST UNDERVALUATE POST on steemit and inside the contest, period. A giant is walking among us but everybody is blind so they don't even know. They should at least feel the ground shacking when you walk.
My sister is in a much better place now. I was thinking about her yesterday because we were emailing back and forth about a creative project we are collaborating on, and her birthday is coming up. Thanks for all the love you shower on me here as well - it keeps my beard shiny ;)

Thanks Andy! I was pretty self-critical of my guitar playing here actually, so that is nice to hear you say that. The bridge is a pretty tricky little bit of fingerpicking and I definitely did not nail it to my satisfaction, but hey, that is what I get for playing an old song with no rehearsing
It might not have been absolutely perfect, but it got the idea across well, and sounded good to me! I rarely manage to play my difficult parts properly, even if I practice quite a lot.
