Hello Stemians!...today I'm sharing my mothers way of earning at home by the means of shell craft.
Shell Craft is simply a folk art which turns into business here in the Philippines because of the booming tourism industry.Sinced living in a city sorrounded by waters and abundant sea life no wonder it becomes one of Cebu's top exports industry.
Shells are made into necklaces and bracelets which makes perfect souveniers for the tourists.Due to increased in demands big manufacturers are hiring manpower from the community by means of job outs
.Sinced my mother had plenty of spare time,she decides to engaged into shell craft.
every saturdays our neighbor would bring in plastics of shells to make it into strands
for 1 peso per strands in 18 inches of lenght and then large manufacturers made it into decors and accessories upon deliveries.
and my mother also make ringlets in flower form out of those shells for 50cents each
,its one way mothers in the community increases family incomes,my mother usually finishes 100 strands and 300 rings in 3 days.There is no machine for making the accessories thats why human workforce is needed for it requires a meticulous hands to come up with a premier products.
..so my fellow stemians if you happenened to visit Cebu specially here in Lapu-lapu city,visit the famous Mactan Shrine and buy souveniers at the stalls located inside the shrine,
youre not just buying quality products for remembrance youre also helping the locals in there incomes.
