Lake Mead Water Supply Could Deplete by 2020

in #environment8 years ago

Alarming issues regarding Las Vegas' water supply are grotesquely unreported. As usual, mainstream media's propaganda sweeps the Lake Mead's lowest levels - since dam creation in the 1930's - under the rug.

The most alarming issue is Las Vegas Valley's population growth! It's continually increasing. EPA estimates the average person consumes 400 gallons of water every day! That's over 140,000 gallons of water per year per person.

Over 25 million people rely on this water source, and rations are expected to go into effect shortly. Financially speaking, this will decrease the supply on public water, while demand is still continually increasing. Price will be hit by both of these motions to skyrocket demand.

Worst Case Scenario

Las Vegas is in a vast desert region, obtaining all its water from the Rocky Mountains. It doesn't take a genius to see this ecosystem is unsustainable! If we continue on our current trajectory, it's a certainty that millions of people will die from dehydration.

The Domino Effect

California - which is also in a severe drought - also draws on this water supply. If either civilization experiences water shortages, million man migrations will result! Slamming a desert region with large population increases will immediately slam water shortages, forcing even more citizens into migrations. The US will face a hard dilemma: enforcing immigration constraints against US citizens.

Solutions

Consumer water recycling #technology has been invented, but isn't widely used.

Showers

Orbital Systems utilize only 5% of water compared to average water consumption. Redirected drain water flows through a purified filter and recycles the water back out the spout. This method additionally retains the heat within water, lowing energy costs.

lawn Care
Grass is a useless weed that's especially wasteful in desert regions. Farmbot acts like a 3D printer for farms that can be sized to fit in people's yards. Growing food in your yard will simultaneously cut costs with food growth. Farmbots will give the exact amount of water necessary to grow plants.
