Cryptocurrencies in Healthcare

As the cryptocurrency movement continues to disrupt and decentralize existing industries through the introduction of blockchain-based systems, it begs the question of where will the next big move be?

A small company, called Patientory, aims to address this issue of health data storage and accessibility by encoding a patient's health data in what they call a "silo", using cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. This will allow the patient to be in complete control over their health data, making it much easier not only for the patient to transfer their data, but also for health practitioners to access it.

Currently, the existing system for healthcare data storage uses electronic record-keeping to store this data, making databases incredibly saturated and cumbersome to navigate. Rather than rely on healthcare practitioners to put in large amounts of work to store and retrieve this data, Patientory essentially allows for the patient to control their own data, making the process of storing and retrieving data much easier for both parties.

Patientory is based off of Ethereum, where it creates tokens that are used for purchasing digital space for you to store your health data. This could have a major impact on the healthcare industry, changing the way data is stored and taking the burden off of healthcare practitioners to provide a more streamlined approach to data access.

As time goes on, I think we might see a lot more innovative ideas like Patientory, for how cryptocurrencies could be used in the healthcare space to increasingly positive results. With the way the current system works, I believe it is only a matter of time until similar blockchain-based technologies decentralize this industry and give patients more control over their own healthcare.
