Andrew Scheer's Non Existent Spine

in #canada6 years ago

Andrew Scheer is the current leader of the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC), making him the leader of the Official Opposition. His nob and the job of the CPC is to take the current Liberal Government to task and hold their feet to the flames on policy. I will start by giving credit to Scheer that he has been good at criticising Trudeau and the Liberals during question period in the House of Commons. But asides for this, Scheer has not been a very good leader.

Scheer has earned the nickname "Stephen Harper With A Smile". But this is not an accurate description. Harper at the very least was a principled person who for the most part stuck to his guns. Even when the press and the opposition was against what he was doing, he mostly would go forward on what he believed was the correct course of action, based on his Conservative principles. Andrew Scheer, on the other hand, has backed down on his principles in an effort to court the press, the red Tories and liberals to his side. Frank Vaughana Conservative YouTuber, put out a tweet that outlines Scheer backing down on his principles and siding with Trudeau on many occations.
After he was voted in as party leader, Andrew Scheer declared he would not reopen debate on abortion. This means that the Tories would not try to regulate abortion in any way, shape or form. Scheer is a Roman Catholic. This means he is pro life, but despite this he will allow any type of abortion to take place in Canada. Since Canada has no laws that regulate abortion, even late term abortions are available. This is another example of the Conservative Leader's inability to stand by his principles.
What sets the Leader of the Conservative Party apart from every other party leader is the fact that they have to be stronger then the others. In a country that is left leaning, the Conservative leader will be scrutinised more by the Liberal press, more by the people and more by the opposing parties. A Conservative leader has to stick to their principles even when the world is against them. In the past, whenever the Conservative party and its members have tried to appeal to the left it doesn't end well for them. They attempt to court new voters and the press to their side in a futile attempt that will inevitably backfire. This is what the old leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, Patrick Brown, attempted to do since he was appointed leader in 2015. But in early 2018, when allegations of sexual harassment came forward (I have covered this in a video which shows that the allegations were nothing short of fake and in my opinion a hit piece committed by the press), Brown had no allies in the press and the Liberals he was attempting to bring over to his side were the first to condemn him while the allegations were still fresh. When election time comes, Scheer will see that he will be demonised and all his efforts will be in vain, but he will still have betrayed his principles and alienated his Conservative base. Scheer has only surpassed Justin Trudeau in the polls when Trudeau gets himself into a controversy or does something embarrassing, but the support never lasts. It teeter-tooters back and forth between the 2 leaders. Scheer is so forgettable that he never keep the minimal support that he gains. If Scheer has any hope of defeating Justin Trudeau in 2019 and becoming the new Prime Minister of Canada, he has to rejuvenate the Conservative base, bring Canadians around to his side and he will not be able to do this by sacrificing his principles. In the end, the Liberal and NDP voters will stick with their party over making the move to the CPC. But by pushing back against the Politically Correct culture and speaking about the true problems that many Canadians are waking up to, he has a chance. But will he grow a spine and take these initiatives?
