Areas where Steemit lags behind Reddit

in #steemit10 years ago

When I joined steemit, I initially thought I'd be abandoning Reddit for this platform - after all here was a chance to do everything you could do on Reddit and earn some $$$s.

However I'm still spending most of my time on Reddit. Why? Well, no-one is interested in politics here, so it is difficult to have a discussion about anything political. I've seen a couple of posts on politics that got about two votes and simply died as no-one engaged. Ditto breaking news - sometimes you want to discuss what is going on in the world - but I can't imagine live blogs working here, there simply isn't the demand, so why would some lonely person spend all day updating a live blog? Ditto any stuff about the bitcoin space, all the dramas take place on Reddit.

Part of the problem might be the bots that control this site - they really arn't interested in who wins elections, or the latest news and they certainly can't engage in any discussion or argument.

What the bots like are stories with pictures of models who claim they are new steemers (yeah right!) and articles about steem. I've also seen a photography guy who gets upvoted for his flower pictures. And some travel articles, but only if they are written by a pretty Norwegian girl. And some icky stuff about rape that turned out to have been made up. That's it.

Until there is a bigger variety of stuff that gets upvoted to the front page, Reddit has nothing to fear.

The user base of the site is still very small. Things will change if Steemit gets significantly more people to join. It is still in it's early stages. Too early to tell.
