Green & Gold
I am super into really lush greens lately, perhaps because I am so excited to see all the plants coming back to life as spring roars into the southern part of the Island. I have really been enjoying playing with acrylic paint pouring. But, as I was saying to my bestie this morning, I don't quite feel "at home" with it artistically, if that makes sense. If you're an artist of any kind, you probably get where I'm coming from. Since I've put the camera down for a bit in favour of the paintbrush (or lack-thereof in the case of pouring), I have been playing with various mediums, in search of the one that feels right. I would really love to settle in to working on a series and a body of work that flows. Wishful thinking at this point. I had a bit of a roll going when I started playing with watercolours last summer (see a bit here, here, here, and here) but I was starting to feel like I wanted to work with something more substantial, hence the acrylic experiments.
Now I've swung back to watercolour with a sudden urge to learn how to paint skin tones, and a but more realism. I'll never be super into full-on realism, I always like a bit of a twist of the surreal, but right now I am dying to hone my skills in layering colours to create skin tones. Stay tuned for some images from those experiments. First I need to buy some higher quality watercolour paints... although I am debating buying gouache as well. Right now I am using pretty low quality watercolour paints and am finding they don't have enough saturation and they dry really chalky and ugly.
Anyway, that's what I've been working on lately! Just playing with paints, trying to find my artistic "home." Artists: how long did it take you to find a groove? I'm aware that we are always searching to a point, but I really envy the people our there who seem to have found a rhythm creating a flow of beautiful work that is both amazing as a whole body of work and as separate pieces, and of course sells well!
