Today I will show you the formulae of the work function, this is used when energy is transmitted through photons (light particles)

EPhoton = E0 + Ek
Energy of a photon = Energy to release + Kinetic energy
Ek = hf - hf0
Ek = Maximum (Because it could bump into other photons) Energy
hf = Total photon energy
hf0 = Work Function
f0 = Minimum Frequency of light to be able to carry a charge.
h = 6.63 × 10-34 m2 kg / s

The work function is different for different metals.

Example:

The work function for a particular metal is stated as 4.90×10-19 Joules. If a radiation of frequency 9×1014 Hz is incident on the metal, calculate the maximum kinetic energy.

Ek = hf - hf0
Ek = 6.63×10-34× 9×1014 × 4.9×10-19
Ek = 1.07×10-19
