Watercolour Painting: Venice
Hi Folks
Today I would like to share a watercolour painting completed in Venice recently. The work aimed to study both the highly unique architectural syntax of the city and also the quality of light its reflection on the water. The painting was executed at the end of the little street Piscina S. Moise, just off the popular shopping street Calle Larga XXII Marzo. Interestingly the google maps image of the location also shows an artist painting, who perhaps chose the spot due to its absence of passing tourists with the only traffic being the constant flow of gondolas.
The main challenges in executing the watercolour were issues of perspective and proportion, which were two areas of focus throughout my drawing tour. While I was quite happy with the picture there are still many things to improve on particularly ensuring perspective lines are falling to vanishing points.
