Coincheck Promises Refunds after $500+ Million NEM Hack

in #coincheck6 years ago

Coincheck was hacked for over $500 millon dollars worth of NEM a few weeks ago, and that is the biggest hack in cryptocurrency in terms of USD value. Over 260,000 people lost coins in this hack, and it is unfortunately for everyone involved.

There have been some updates about the hackers and some people who received hacked NEM that have been questioned by authorities as well. I will try to write a post about that information later today.

The good news in all of this is that Coincheck, the exchange that was hacked, has promised refunds for all of their users that took a loss in the NEM hack. I am not sure how long it will take Coincheck to refund all of their customers, but the gesture is unheard of and I hope that they eventually follow through with it! They started by using some of their own cash that they had on hand and it will be great for crypto if everyone that was hacked gets reimbursed.

I also hope that the NEM hackers are caught, and I think that the authorities are hot on their trail!

Let this hack be a good reason for you to buy yourself a crypto hardware wallet, and keep all of your digital assests offline and secure!
