your in guatemala and its raining....the cops are never gonna help

Its rainy season in Guatemala right now....its 1am....its pouring. I'm in bed. My friend Tom calls me. "Bryan, i need your help, my backpack with my computer, hard drive and passport just got stolen. 'at the cops shop, the wont take my report...they say i'm drunk...but my lawyer says they have to take my report if a sober person comes up and files the report in my name....dude can you come file the report for me...the first year of my child's life is in that bag....all the photos, all the videos..can you help?

Holy shit...what has my life become that this is the phone call i'm getting at 1 am. "ok man, ill help, let me get dressed and i ll call you back."
Here is where my brain starts thinking, so the cops are pissed at my buddy Tom and have shut him out of police station, he is drunk, it is pouring....even if i get them to take the report...they are not gonna go out looking...this is Guatemala...shit just doesn't work that way here. Ok...i don't want to be a dick and just not go help a guy who sounds desperate...but my sober logical thoughts just knows that nothing is gonna happen right now and the best thing to do is just go to bed and get up early to do the report.
"Tom, ok...i'm walking up town...where are you?"
"Man, i had to leave...those pigs slammed the door on me and said if i wasn't gone...they would come out and arrest me....i'm walking home...I'll wake up early and make those pigs take my report."
Holy relief balls i think! but say,
"You're making the right choice Tom...those cops wouldn't have left to help you anyway. Dude, call me in the morning if you need my help."
Sometimes i just wish my life could be normal i think as i get back in my warm bed and listen to rain pound on tin roof.
