Normal not nOrmAl ----THE SHOWER
I have been enjoying focusing on the little things lately. Attempting to notice the unnoticeable.
There are many aspects of every humans existence that becomes normal to that persons life. The actuality of that normal action or habit is so often simply not normal. (EYE OF BEHOLDER)
More likely our normal everyday doings could be seen as truly odd, unique, abnormal or even wrong. Yet through the ever so adaptable nature of humans; we just absorb the strangeness until we become accustomed to it. In today’s Vlog, I give you an example of one of my Normal not Normal’s. The Guatemalan Shower.

You are so right when you say it is all a matter of perspective. I was friends with a new faculty member, originally from the Soviet Union, who had come to the United States just after it dissolved. During a cookout in his very much typical small American house, it hit me that although that was normal to me, the freedoms that he now had must be very unusual to him. When I mentioned to him that such a simple event to me, must still be truly remarkable to him, he said "No, you get used to it quickly." That stuck with me all this. We get used to so much that it is hard to remember when we had to do without. I grew up without the internet and went through the first 4 years of college without. At this point, it is hard for to imagine how I got information then. I can think back to that time, so I KNOW how I did it, but the internet so pervasive now that I still have trouble believing that I could get information without it then.

yes. we can become accostomed to anything. the ringing in you ear can become a melody, the racing of a heart an addiction, have you tried the guinea pig balls or crunched on a salty fried grasshopper. normal is ever shifting and always dependent on the beholder.

Something simple like hot water is such an amazing luxury to have and to be grateful for it but it’s just something you don’t think of if it’s just part of your everyday! Easy readily available Hot water is going in my gratitude journal right now 💖
Reminds me of the old farm house when I was kid, the hot water heater was in the shed next to the house and was gas fired just like that only it had an automatic lighter system. The good thing about it was it never ran out of hot water, as long as there was gas to fire it the series of copper tubing coils the water had to go thru was just the right amount of time for the water to be perfectly hot by the time the water exited the canister.
Those type systems are now becoming the "thing" to have and there is a premium price tag on them as well, and now they come in both gas and electric models. So you were well ahead of the curve on this one.
It may very well be normal as normal can be soon.
