I missed the LOL memo.
So there are things in life that get missed. You get fed some wrong info or misinterpret and you find your self for years thinking something is one thing when it is not.
When i was a kid my aunt Durinda told me that raisins give you freckles. having lots of freckles and not wanting more i stopped eating raisins. When i was like 13 i was over at a friends having a snack and i refused raisins as always...and then it came up...'how can you not like raisins?' i let a table of friends know that i dont want any more freckles. Everyone is confused...and im like what...raisins give you freckles...didnt you know? holy laugh track.... it took me many years to live that one down.
this happens to us in many forms in our life to varying degrees...sometimes its just the incorrect pronunciation of a word. Sometimes its some bullshit you got told young...like the Santa thing. or there was this girl who was led to believe that unicorns were just extinct but had at one time really existed...she figured that was a lie in freshman year of university.
How does it go missed for so long... pretty hilarious.
Well i had one i figured out about a year ago. I had been ending emails and shooting out texts with the ever so common....LOL.
only i thought it meant Lots of Love. when i think back to all the years that i signed off a message thinking i was just sending out lots of love and people being confused. or worse angry.
i discovered it cause i was writing a kinda intense message dealing with a stupid town drama last year... i wanted to end the message softly and to show that while i was bitching at the person...i still cared and respected them... so i turned to my wife who had just proof read the message and said...so do you think LOL is too much for the end?
she was so confused...'what are you talking about...that would be so inappropriate.' I don't see the big deal...maybe it doesn't fit perfectly but i want him to know that i still have Lots of Love for him. Her face crinkled...'what are you talking about?'
this turned into a 20 minute debate and google verification.... laughing out loud...what the... no way....
i had seriously been using it incorrectly for over 10 years.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has a story of some bit of common knowledge that you had wrong for years.

yeah... i really dont know how i made it so long.... i even remember a few times being like thats a weird use of LOL...but just kept moving on and the circumstance to point out my daft self...just never made its self apparent. haha. made for a great laugh and Sarah loves bringing it up to point out how dumb i am. i mean thats what moments like these are for right....to continuously needle at our loved ones.
I'm sure at the time it came out there were people signing off letter with Lots of love. I distinctly remember it. So it's not really our fault that we got it wrong... :)
I used to hate raisins as a kid. And I think its because folks would give out those tiny boxes of em on Halloween. They were always hard and clumped together. Now I love the damn things! Not the point yes, but did I say I love raisins now?

Yes, my sister in law was a "Lots of Love" LOL 'er and she made a big ass of herself when a friend of her's father passed away. Never a good thing to LOL on Facebook the post that someone's parent passed and that services are pending.

I always thought it was "for all intensive purposes" until realized it was actually "for all intents and purposes." My wife corrected me on that one too.
Also never understood the "why did the chicken cross the road joke" until I saw some meme that informed me that getting to the other side referred to dying and that the chicken wanted to kill itslef (or something like that
