What Ethereum is.

in #crypto9 years ago

I've been studying Ethereum recently from a Computer Architecture perspective and have found some interesting information about the system.

It is a Global Computer that will never turn off and will never forget.

Right now, that is very "valuable" for those that want to record transactions of "value", so this computation time is quite expensive, and slow.

The only piece of data that can be sent "for free" in a transaction is the "value" modifier of the transaction. The other data included in the data section comes at a cost of 5 gas per byte per transaction. I imagine encoding values storage values in the lower ends of the value field if gas prices go up too high in the future.

As an attempt at a global supercomputer, it's an interesting experiment. Fully open source (all contracts are viewable), with permanent storage, it could be a record keeping system to last our species.

We just need to make it cheaper.
