First Time Shooting the All-Powerful 500 Smith & Wesson! (FUNNY!)

Billed as the world's most powerful production handgun, the all-powerful 500 Smith & Wesson big bore revolver is truly the king of beasts! Unless you custom build your own firearm, you simply cannot get a handgun more extreme than the 50 caliber 500 SW revolver!

I recently got my hands on one of these bad boys thanks to the amazing crew at Turner's Outdoorsman El Cajon. Furthermore, I picked up various 500 revolver cartridges/loads at LAX Ammo San Diego. Once my DROS was complete, I headed over to my local gun range to test out the incredible 500 Smith & Wesson.

Needless to say, I was pretty psyched about shooting the 500 revolver. In fact, I probably psyched myself out too much, but who can blame me? YouTube has plenty of videos showcasing shooters who did not show the 500 SW big bore revolver the respect it demands. In turn, many such shooters almost blew their own brains out due to accidental double-tapping.

I did not want to become a victim of my own doing. So I prepared mentally and physically for the 500 Smith & Wesson. When I worked up the courage to shoot the 50 caliber beast of a handgun, I reiterated in my head the fundamentals of big bore revolver management.

To my surprise, the recoil wasn't that bad. I never once felt that I was going to blow my own head off. However, this is no cap gun! The 500 Smith & Wesson will kick you like a mule, and that's on a kind day! Out of all the firearms I have fired, whether that be the mighty .308 Winchester in non-muzzle brake platform or 12-gauge buck shots, the 500 revolver caused me the most pain.

I will say that the 500 SW "hurts so good" -- it's truly an amazing experience to be able to say that you fired the "world's most powerful (production) handgun!" I recommend the 50 caliber 500 Smith to anyone -- just be super careful!
