"Be Nice" is the Best Advice for Steemit Rookies...and Here's Why!

Steemit is unlike any other social media platform currently available, so you'll want to pay close attention to this video if you're new to the network. You've all heard the expression that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. As ridiculously facile that advice may sound, it actually works wonders on Steemit.

Here's why -- Steemit is technically a decentralized network, but spiritually and practically, it is one of the most controlled platforms. Each Steem member has voting powers, both to the upside as well as to the downside. Such powers, however, are not equal. Those with greater reputation scores carry more weight in their votes.

You'll immediately notice this when you start posting in earnest on Steem. If you're lucky enough to capture the attention and good graces of the Steemit whales, you'll see your reward jump exponentially. This is the "feel good" scenario that drives most newcomers to Steem.

However, the opposite is also true. If you piss off a whale (for whatever reason), you may end up getting downvoted. That will be absolutely crippling to a newcomer, who has little to no credibility.

In order to keep on the up and up, you'll want to mind what you post. Until you develop a strong following and a high reputation score, you should keep away from the controversial stuff!

Trust me, nothing can ruin your appetite than going "down steem!"

Sound advice.

Thank you for sharing @bullishmoney!! I think it is really good advice, especially for the newbies like me !! Very useful post! Upvoted!

Very wise advice. 👍

Be nice but don't be a sheep, if you have a counterargument or disagree say it nicely in a comment. We definitely don't need youtuber type responses.

Quite savvy..... thanks for having mercy on the minnows.

Essential advice!

The two previous mega social media platforms (facebook, reddit) have built-in blocking of users. Sometimes that function has to be used on mercellous, trolling individuals within those platforms because it just ruins the whole vibe of the post and it's contributors. I wish the best for all Steemit users to never encounter such negative behaviours. Of course that includes me as well.
