I might be able to understand how difficult the idea of how memes bring value to a platform might be for you.... until I remember how every other social network uses them to grow their platform, do you really think that Steemit is the exception to the rule?
We run the risk of regurgitated dumb cat photos taking the rewards pot everyday - instead of good original content..
So I guess I'm hoping that it is...
atm we have tons of dolphins, with automatic voters, posting stuff like "Submit was changed to Post" for a quick payout, and the other day I saw a whale make $250 for copy and pasting an entire book into one post.
Minnows can't make $50 for pointing out the obvious and they will get flagged off Steemit for plagerizing books unlike the whales, but they can post memes and I try give them as much SBD as I can each week for making quality memes that will bring more new people to steemit.
People creating original memes on Steemit are creating original content and many people enjoy memes because they bring humour and joy into their life.
This is particularly true of young people and Steemit is sorely lacking in young people. Decent quality memes could bring the kids in and some of them might even stay and read other content, even if they can't be bothered to post themselves; this is exactly what Steemit needs.
So please explain exactly if/why you are writing off this form of entertainment, in its entirety, as shit-posting.
Hi Cathi, I actually like memes. They often make me laugh, but lots are also rubbish too. I think the general consensus is anything with out any serious effort or context is a shit post ie just a meme, just a forex chart, just a link to an article, just someone else's youtube video.
Also the vast majority of meme's aren't "original content", they are splices of copyrighted works with some <= mildly amusing text thrown over the top.
It's cool with memes and all, but this just shows why SMT's is such a good idea for the steem ecosystem. If everyone starts earning lots from posting "easy" posts (memes) then there will be less incentive to make proper posts, degrading the overall quality of the platform.
Seriously dude, a meme platform with its own token is a great idea. Your website is really clean and simple, great UX, but this shit does not belong on Steem.
Also why is my shitpost not in the hot section on your website? Did you censor it?
I agree with you Bulleth - It's hard to see how memes are good for steemit...

Are you condemning all memes as shit-posts?

Thank you! That's what we've been looking for!)

Hopefully we see some use of SMT ASAP!
Yep and every bit of STEEM and SBD that goes to a shitpost drains the limited rewards pool that is supposed to go to creators of original content.
A good meme can make my day.
This, however, is truly a useless post.
Your comment's pretty useless too but you thought it deserved your own vote :D
