Here Comes The Severe Weather Alerts for Upstate New York - Snow and Icy Roads

in #food6 years ago (edited)

It has been raining all day today with temps reaching around 55 degrees,
but it has gone down to 30, which is where rain freezes and ice is created
on the roads. For those of you who live in the tropics and perhaps have
never even seen snow before, 5 to 17 inches of the white stuff that is
predicted to hit Upstate NY in the next few days along with very ICY Roads
would be a great time to come and enjoy a change of weather. The
warnings are out. Stay off all roads for your own safety. The salt trucks are
doing their best to help us get home safely, but don't push the envelope.

I went out today to stock up on a few groceries! Man, what a mad house at
the grocery story. Took me almost an hour to get a gallon of milk, some
celery and a few tomatoes. Crazy! I haven't seen this in many, many years.
People were polite and helpful, but the parking lot was a crazy scene from
a survival movie. The last time I saw this run on food was in 1999.

The best advise I have for anyone? Make sure you have a stockpile of
canned and dried goods, just in case something like this happens again.
So much easier to just go to the basement or garage. We have ours in
the garage and we can go pick out whatever we need. We are stocked
up with potatoes, onions, canned beans, artichokes, olives, pickles,
pastas, nuts, flour, oil, mayo, cereals, glass jars of fruits, water (of
course) and drinks. In our freezer we have meats, fish, veggies and
breads.

Our car is in the garage and we are hoping the snow plow will take the
major amount away before we need it by tomorrow night. We are ready
for anything, we hope, and hope you will be too. Stay warm, stay happy
and don't go out any more than you have to.

Jan. 12, 2018 - We were some of the "lucky" ones. We got 16 inches
of snow overnight! yay for the skiers, sledders, and those who love the
exercise of shoveling too

thanks again five or should I call you SJ? Scott John?

In Chicago we had out nice warm day Thursday after that it went back to freezing!

hoping Chicago is treating you well. stay safe. I am from Wisconsin, so I know Chicago. Always enjoyed visiting.

not too bad here as long as you stay out of the bad parts. Im in the suburbs. My wife however says she would like for us to live downtown. Not any time soon lol :)

well, Chicago had some nice restaurants downtown years ago - not sure about now, but not worth the risk to life and limb to live there. Are you near the airport? I like your icon.

I live in the Northwest suburbs, about 35 mins from Ohare. Im big into aviation thats why I have my icon like this. I use to work for Southwest Airlines but most of my aviation career was in corporate aviation. I really enjoyed it but I own a shop here now. Better to be your own boss than to work for someone else. Just a lot more stress. I would consider opening up in Wisconsin though the taxes are a lot better.

I only fly Southwest Airlines - best everything! I loved Wisconsin and was in the Civil Air Patrol when I was a senior in high school... interesting times. Yes, worked my own businesses - and though I loved it, I understand the stress too. Of course, I know a lot more now than I did then, especially about taxes. If you care to check your W-2, the upper corner it has a little statement you might want to check...lol

MY stepdad is a pilot for Southwest he is flying into Midway actually right now then off to Manchester. HE got to fly the 737-MAx the first week it came out, check hout how big the screens in this is! LOL I told him the first time he flew it that he better send me some pics! He is lucky though lives in Phoenix with my mom. I sure miss Arizona!

wow! does it fly itself = take off, coffee and landing? ha! I am part of a large family - 11 kids - a cousin in Arizona. She loves it there. I love the 4 seasons - hard to leave once it's in the blood. Hey, have you ever heard of Bill Winston? I saw him here once - terrific teacher/preacher. Love the guy. He's in Lake Forest. Check him out.
