Why aren't more people talking about Storj?
Storj had their Beta launch party last week in Berlin. However not many people are talking about it. I think that Storj is an amazing concept and a breakthrough for decentralizing technologies and blockchain.
It stands for the end of internet censorship. The ability to store your most confidential files in such a way that they cannot be accessed by anyone else except yourself. Secure, redundant, and in your hands. It is a competitor to Dropbox, Google, Amazon, and more. It makes the NSA less relevant. It decentralizes the internet in ways we have only imagined before.
Have you got any news from the launch party? What does Open Beta mean for the beta-testers?
Bring more people from the project over here so that people can buy more into it with the money they make here. I may buy into it once I know more too :-)
The main reason I'm not is that I know nothing about it. Why not make some more posts and explain Storj to us in greater detail?
Thanks for the feedback. I think you hit it on the money. It's an incredibly amazing idea, but not many people have heard about it or have been exposed to it. I will definitely create some more posts about it.
Essentially, it is a decentralized Dropbox. As a user you can rent out part of your hard drive, or you can pay to store your files on other people's hard drives. Your files are encrypted, split up, and replicated on many different hard drives around the world.
So if you're providing hard drive space, you don't know what's being stored on your hard drive, and you wouldn't be able to access it as it is encrypted and just a small part of the entire file.
Awesome project!
I think Siacoin has the same potential too, IMHO.
