Math is an exact science, almost everybody agrees.
Nevertheless, it doesn't mean it has been using the same rules and language on the historical timeline.

R U Surprised?

Let me introduce here, a short example to this, which became also so viral.
It is about how to solve an exercise like this:

The expression can be simplified by the order of operations
First evaluate Parentheses/Brackets, then evaluate Exponents/Orders, then evaluate Multiplication-Division, and finally evaluate Addition-Subtraction.

The first step: simplify the addition inside of the parentheses.

According to the order of operations, division and multiplication have the same precedence, so the correct order is to evaluate from left to right. First take 12 and divide it by 2, and then multiply by 3.

This gets to the correct answer of 18.

In using a different interpretation, the answer would be 2.
It goes like that:

2 is a wrong answer !

It would have been regarded as the correct answer 100 years ago.
The reason is that historically, the symbol ÷ was used to mean you should divide by the entire product on the right of the symbol and in this second solution, this is exactly what was implemented.

If you are not convinced that 18 is the right answer, try to use a calculator or ask Google !
