Joy Vs Happiness
What is joy? Joy is a feeling and a sense of well being deep inside you. It's a firm foundation.
Happiness is fleeting. It blows about by the wind with every life circumstance.
Yet people always put on their happy face. You want to be seen as enjoyable to be around; polite. You don't want people to see what's really going on. You don't even want to see what's really going on. So you act happy.
Joy is different. Joy stands even when you feel sad, angry, disappointed, and all the other myriad emotions.
Joy is in you because you know all the other myriad emotions.
You are joy because you have plunged into the depths and you have risen and transcended.
Joy is authenticity.
Happiness is a face, an emotion.
Happiness is flimsy. It comes and goes with each passing thought and every life experience. Joy will see you through it all - through the happiness and the sadness and the loss and the grief and back through to happiness again.
Your relationships can be "happy", or you can take them to another level of depth by recognizing and allowing the full breadth of experience and emotion in both yourself and the other person. Like happiness in your everyday life, happiness in a relationship is flimsy. It will come and go. There will also be sadness and anger, and if you cling to happiness, your relationship is at risk when something else arises.

People in the spiritual world very often exaggerate their "lightness."
Foster authenticity. From it comes a true deep joy at your human experience.
Joy is established by an allowing of your human experience. With an underlying joy, you have a foundation to experience and even appreciate the whole gamut of human experience and emotion in safety.
To grasp for happiness or to put a happy face over everything is to be a shell of a human - dying on the inside, happy face on the outside.
