I Love Wild Things

When I was a young girl I used to be so envious of the birds. I would look at them out my school window and wonder why they got to do what they wanted with all of their time, and we didn't. Why did someone else own My time? But I also loved purity. I was never a bad kid. I never "misbehaved" in school. Never had detention or anything like that. I was just curious. And when I got to sixth grade is when my teacher started being suspicious of me and trying to tame me. I wan't a rule breaker. And I didn't know why she was always telling me to behave. But as I started thinking about how much I love things that are wild this morning, it occurred to me that she was trying to tame my wild streak.

No one ever did.

I acted the way I had to in school. But when I was out and I was an adult, I wasn't good at it. I can do charisma, and I'm competent, so I could always get jobs. But they never worked. I would always fight with my coworkers because I was too .....now that I see it.... wild and unwilling to be tamed.

And the older I get, the wilder I get. You see Steemit really is the perfect place for me. I think I've found the weirdest, most fringe dwelling people on the planet. Work? Pff. Society? Ha. Rules? What?

Somehow (not somehow, I focused deliberately) I've come to a place to making money on Steemit. (Mindblowing! I couldn't even have imagined this when I was 25.)

I don't fit in. People get a little nervous about me. I'm kind. But I'm not "nice." I don't "do" polite. I like please, I like thank you. I hate polite. I hate behaved. Listen, I don't behave. When I'm excited about something and passionate about it, I'm going to show it. Doesn't matter what everybody else is doing. I make a weird impression sometimes.

I love when my dog is off-leash and he tries to get the uptight strangers to play.

I hate lawns. I love wild, untamed nature.

I don't mind dirt.

I love abandoned buildings which nature has taken over.

I love dandelions and weeds, and when they grow between the cracks in sidewalks.

I love when people skip the small talk and go straight to what's real.

I love shows about people leaving society and moving into the woods.

I love when people break fashion rules.

I love beards.

I love women with unshaved armpits.

I love wearing an old ratty beer shirt to Kundalini yoga classes where everyone's dressed in clean white and on their best spiritual behavior.

I love to shock people with the F word when everyone's being behaved.

Listen, I don't care. I don't have anyone to behave for. You like me, or you don't. I make my own money. I don't work for anyone. Haven't for six years.

I love this book. The title and what it says. Wild Mind. I like to say it to myself over and over.

People hate wild. It's unpredictable, and humans don't like unpredictable. They want everything to be lined up so they're safe. Not me! Hey listen, it's good for you to be offended by fuck!

Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book did things to me.

I want to know the wild you. I don't want to know the polite, behaved you. I want to know what keeps you up at night, what you really think. I want to know what you dream about and what you hate. I want to see you when you're not coiffed, but when your hair's messy and you're wearing mismatching patterns.

Why don't we just let our dogs run off leash a bit and get dirt on us and knock us around a bit? Why don't we let our grass grow a little tall, and dance in the street?
