Beach Wednesday - Figures in the Mist - Westport, New Zealand

in #beachwednesday7 years ago (edited)

The owner of our caravan park near Westport told me the beach across the road would give me the best sunset photographs I would ever capture.

So off I went down to the Tasman Sea. But it was a very bad day, with high winds, lots of cloud, and no sun to be seen. While waiting for a break in the weather I took numerous shots along the shore. I thought I was alone, and it was only after a few shots that I realized that there were other people on the beach, producing this rather surreal and almost scary shot. The mist could have been associated with the low cloud, but I think a lot of it was coming off the very intense surf driven by the high winds.

Later I did get a glimpse of the sun, and did get a few sunset shots, but none as striking as expected based on what the caravan park owner told me.

Canon EOS, zoom telephoto lens, handheld, f/5.6, 1/200 sec., ISO 1600, focal length 300 mm. Only edit was to crop.

That's an amazing shot! Sometimes I guess some may only post bright happy pics, and avoid these 'gloomy' shots - I like them! They are a part of life and there's a certain beauty in them, even if I do admit, a bit scary... isn't Life, anyway...

Thanks for feedback -photography should catch all the emotions!

I so agree... You're most welcome!

It actually does look kind of creepy with all those broken branches and hazy air...
Nothing like a prepared photo trip and getting something we didn't not expect :)

makes up for all the time waiting for a shot and getting nothing!

Beautiful photo with a serene atmosphere! Great!
