Under the milky way last night
With a clear night, full moon and good company, last night was magical. We lit a fire drum (yes it was a little wild) and had some beers under the stars. My amatuer photography does not do the magic justice.
I live in a tiny village up in the mountains of Queensland, Australia. We live 928 metres above sea-level, hundreds of miles from the city lights. The night sky here is amazing. We call our backyard, the sky deck. It is our favourite hang out place.
My kitchen looks west to the setting sun. The sunsets, the stars and the moon is breathtaking. On an inky black night, the stars pierce the sky and the milky way blazes overhead. Last night, we shared our sky deck with a French backpacker who has only been in Australia for 3 weeks. How lovely it was to see someone blown away by the night sky. Awestruck by it's beauty and magnitude. It was a beautiful reminder for me to never take this for granted.
Until next time, go outside and look at the stars.

cold weather and a cold beer, what else
The photos have an eerie feel to them, in a good way :) What are the seasons like there. Do you have cold winters?
We get four really distinct seasons, Autumn is amazing with all the trees. Winter is cold. It snowed last year, although that was the first time in 34 years. It plummets below zero at night with lovely frosts, we all have wood fires in the our homes here. So cosy and nice. The days are sunny in winter but not that warm.
I bet you feel as if you can almost touch them, huh?
wow, sounds wonderful @bridgetbunchy.
I was up in Queensland just last month. Queensland is amazing in its diversity and beauty.
Nice. I don't know which I like more, watching clouds roll by or gazing up there at night...I think night, because you can always hope to see a shooting start to make a wish :)
You have inspired me to do a post on my front yard. I think you might like it. I will post in the next day or two.
Thank you
Those are really cool shots. It sounds like you live in a beautiful place. UPVOTED and I'd like to see some shots in daylight as well.
My latest post under photography is a landscape where I live. Some have found it beautiful but some others find it deeply disturbing.
I'd appreciate your opinion if you have time.
