Taking Back The Streets Piece By Peace

in #art8 years ago

This is the mission of Back Alley Gallery, a street art initiative in Lismore, Australia.

Back Alley Gallery

Every time I visit Lismore, I make a stop at Back Alley Gallery. This free public space is located in a long alleyway, behind a string of shops, in the heart of the towns business centre.  Over the years the alleyway has evolved into a street artist haven, the brick walls their canvas . Funded in part by local business groups and tourism bodies the alley attracts local and international artists. The gallery just keeps expanding. There is now well over sixty artworks consisting of large scale murals, graffiti art, paste ups, stencils and installations.

This outdoor art gallery is here for the community to enjoy. It is raw, edgy and visually stunning. Street art is alive and thriving in Lismore and has become an integral part of the towns artistic expression and local identity.

Lismore is a wonderful town to visit. It is full of hippie creative vibes, organic food, wholesome juice bars, great coffee and all manner of interesting shops. It is not a wealthy town but it thrives on the fringes with a rich soul and a pulsing heart beat of creative energy.

Yesterday, I wandered through Back Alley Gallery and captured some of this energy to share with you. A brilliant piece of street art can bring so much colour and joy.  I hope you enjoy your private tour.

I am splitting this post up into 2 parts as there is just SO much to see. Even the tiny details and grungy dirty elements of the alleyway are beautiful and photo worthy.

Enjoy.

Until next time

What a scene you have there, great styles! There were many outstanding pieces I liked a lot, but what I find really stunning is the huge photorealistic one with the girl holding the grown-up hand (can't make out the signature). Masterful.

Yes that one is my favourite too. It is done by Guido van Helten. He has quite an international reputation with pieces all over the world. There is even one of his pieces here in my home town of Stanthorpe.

Good to see the backalleys of Australia spruced up! I hail from a little further up north :)

Yes it is. I spent a bit of time many years ago now up near Townsville. North is too hot for me!

Very interesting artwork here. Thank you.

You are most welcome @team101.

Awesome post. Amazing art I Luv street art and Grafitti , have to admit the child holding her dad's hand is absolutely fantasticly real.

Me too! The large mural you like is painted by Guido van Helten.

I LOVE the painting of the child holding the parent's hand. You have a great variety of street art there. Well done. Thanks for sharing/

There is quite a few very unique styles which makes the walk really interesting. The piece you liked is painted by Guido van Helten. The first one he did in the alley was gorgeous and there for years but unfortunately it got vandalised. This is his newest one.

I love realism in art which you don't see as much in street art in my area. Von Helton is a true artist.

The one with the girl and the grownup hand is so nice. The surroundings is great for that pice of art
