LiAngelo Ball Is Looking Solid
I had previously gave my thoughts on LiAngelo Ball's game and felt that he had a lot of tools especially his 3 point shot and his post moves. People had talked a lot of smack about how he would tend to want to post up and they were saying he wouldn't be able to do that in the NBA at his size. He measured and official 6' 5.25" at the Pro Basketball Combine at IMG Academy.
My previous assessment 2 months ago was as follows.
I personally think that he can fit into a roll eventually as a three point specialist who gets the shot off quick like Kyle Korver or Klay Thompson. Both those guys are a couple inches taller than him but I don't think that is going to exclude him. I think ultimately what will happen is that either he gets selected and will ultimately play in the NBA summer league this year and will ultimately get placed on a G League team to develop more next season.

Based on what I saw from the Basketball Combine videos I still believe this to be a likely scenario. The footage from the combine shows a solid ability to score but in some respects it was a lot of 3 on 3 action in a half court scenario so it was a lot of half court isolation stuff.
He has some private workouts with teams including the Lakers coming up so what I said about him getting some looks is playing out. Also what was interesting was that his wingspan is 6' 9" and also his vertical results were solid but not out of this world.
His vertical turned out to be 37 inches from what appears to be no gathering step. Mine is approximately 34 inches with a gathering step.
What is unclear is what the test showed when he came in from a runup. I'm assuming that isn't what came out to be 37 inches. I would expect that to be over 40 inches.
Ultimate Assessment
After his time in Europe and then his showing at the Pro Basketball Combine I think he will continue to get assessed and will have an opportunity to play in the NBA Summer League. As a business decision it would probably make sense for a team who did terrible this season to just draft him in the second round for the publicity and then hope he can pull off a high percentage from behind the 3 point line when he gets in.
It is unlikely he will go in the draft though because there are only two rounds in the NBA draft with a total of 60 picks. That isn't a lot of spots total. So there is a good chance he goes undrafted but will still have a chance to get picked up after the draft.
Here are the projects for the first round picks at this point. I haven't seen a lot of breakdowns for 2nd round picks.
