Man Stuff - Repairs
Man Stuff - Repairs
I believe men need to be able to fix stuff. I’m not talking an in depth knowledge of all subjects, but I am talking about a working understanding of basic household items and analytical ability to think through an issue, and try to fix it yourself.
It is helpful having friends and family who are “handy” but men should take pride in the ability to do many things on their own. This will prolong the life and usefulness of many items, ultimately saving money and giving you a better understanding of the utility of items.
I do not consider myself a handyman, but after watching a couple YouTube videos, I recently replaced a broken pull cord on a ceiling fan, which included cutting the wires and splicing/ connecting the new pull cord unit to the fan. I also recently replaced a worn out shower holding rack in one of the bathrooms.
Men need to know their limits though - when the oven wasn’t working right and it appeared to be related to the gas line after troubleshooting it myself, I called in a professional. No need to break things further or hurt yourself trying to do something that is too complicated or requires special tools.
Men - give it your best shot first before calling for help... you will be surprised how simple many things are to fix that most people pay big money to repair/replace.
Good luck,
Brian

i have always sucked with repairs :)
I agree 100%! We've been trying to sell our house, and I have been fixing some minor things. A lot of it has been a lot easier than I thought, and ends up being pretty cheap! I've changed out light fixtures and fans, replaced some gutters, and put up some sheetrock. It feels good being able to take care of things yourself.
Good stuff and good luck with the house sale!
The best stuff a man should know how to fix is a broken relationship. Haha I'm working on that :)
Great point... that is a much harder fix though... might need a professional!
Definitely agree, I never considered myself very handy till I bought the house that my family and I are currently in, since we purchased this house, I have figured out how to replace the seal plate, rim joist, floor joist, and the plywood for the floors, I have also figured out plumbing new water lines for the house, putting all new lights and fans into the rooms, I learned all this simply also using YouTube, anyone can be a handyman if they just trying it out
Exactly. Not as intimidating once you get going and attempt it. Those are big projects... well done!
Thanks, they were very intimidating at first and many different words were used doing it but once I was done I felt great about being able to accomplish something that would of cost me 5-10k to pay a contractor to do and I did it almost all by myself, my wife did hand me a few tools I needed..... I did forget to mention I built a 20x22 deck also, because I paid a contractor to do it and they dipped out with my money so I YouTubed how to build one and built it... also slowly gettin my money back from the contractor cause I sued him, one of the main reasons I started diy handyman things 😜
Yes man I feel you on this! My manliness has been tested ever since my girlfriend and I got our own place together two years ago. Whether it was putting up plastic on our windows for the winter, replacing the tail light in the car, fixing broken sunglasses, putting up a shelf, or even just opening up a jar of cashew butter, I feel like each time I get a few man points :)
I hear ya... keep earning those man points!
great stuff!
being surrounded with the best people in life makes you feel pretty good.thanks for this

STOPNice work. @brian.rrr It's best a man involve himself in handi; it's safe time and cost... I learnt this at the first year of my collage life when I keep running after a painter guy to beautifying my room...but he didn't responded due to his busyness. I later go on YouTube watching some tips and applied what I learn and paint my room and that work out. When I done with the program in school ... I gained confidences, and I painted my room in hometown... I saw some butterfly decorations I wanted to buy online... But when I converted the amount to my currency then it was cost so give up and I said to myself it's man who did those Decorations can't I give a tried.. .. with positive mind I archive my aim, I did some decorations on my room wall.. family and friends who saw it admire and appreciated it!!! Friend call me butterfly guy coz all my room wall full of butterfly decorations art.. friends now asking me to help them do some decorations painting... I don't stop there I progressed to trained myself art.. started with funny drawing now I can say I am progressing and improving in art..
