A FEW SIMPLE TIPS FOR DECORATING THE CHRISTMAS TABLE THIS YEAR

in #decorating10 years ago

During my years spent as an events co-coordinator, I picked up quite a few handy tidbits of knowledge around the concept of decorating a table to be both aesthetically pleasing as well as practical. Today I would like to share some hints with you for decorating your Christmas table this year...

Tip 1

The centerpiece of the table:

If you are decorating a round table one higher centerpiece always presents an element of dimension to the table, however try to make sure that the centerpiece does not restrict the guests from making eye-contact, as this could very easily add to a less social feel to your get together.
On the other hand, if you are decorating an elongated table I would rather suggest a repetition of a few simple flatter centerpieces as this adds to the flow of the table and makes the design more symmetrical.

Tip 2

Color

Never go overboard with the amount of different colors you use, my recommendation would be to use no more than 3 colors for decor. Even if you are planning a bright colorful event try to stick to three, any more than that has a tendency to make the table appear busy thus leaving no focus on any given focal point and efforts in decor could be very easily be lost in the picture as a whole. Remember that the food and the guest will also be adding their own color to the mix once they are at the table.

Tip 3

The smaller things

Table gifts - These make the table feel personal, and make your guest feel welcome.
Candles - Adding candles to any table adds a sense of warmth and belonging.
Marked seating - This has the added benefit of avoiding the mass confusion of seating especially if you are expecting a larger group of guests but more that that, it will appeal to your guests as attention to each individual in stead of just catering to the whole.
