The Four Nobel Truths

In a very diluted fashion Im going to explain what the four noble truths are , and whether they are in fact true or not. These are 4 ideas that have been taught in a few different ways around the world. The four noble truths that I am familiar with are of Buddhist origin and they are taught to help people understand an apparent rigidness and misunderstanding of the experience of our existence and these ideas can potentially help us achieve "nirvana".

In twenty two years of life I've come to realize many things. One of the biggest of the realizations i have had in recent years is the fact that i have direct control in the unfolding of my life. Routines are a sort of "desire loop". We allow ourselves to get comfortable fulfilling goals and other needs in our life to the point were we no longer have a say in our day to day life. Our days and nights, months and years quickly can become predetermined. Its very easy for us to get caught in these types of routines. Routines can get to a point where we are no longer comfortable and unfulfilled but we continue to meet these demands and stay on this less desirable path.

To try and make it as simple as I can we must agree that inevitably, in our lives there will be suffering caused by any choice we make because all choices made are done so to fulfill a desire. Now the greatest solution is to not have desires, sit under a willow tree for the rest of our lives and not even breathe. I would cease to exist. Unfortunately this is just not viable. I cannot just exist with no desires or live with no action what so ever. This means the only real solution is accepting that we cannot allow ourselves to become subservient to our own created routines. This would literally be allowing our desires to control and affect us. When someone is to deep under control by their schedules and lives they feel trapped, helpless and often miserable and frustrated. Its very easy for one to get caught in a routine of this type.

Now if we put a direct end to our desires and choose to only obey the present moment, understanding that the choice we make next will fulfill a certain desire and thus cause suffering. We would probably want to be more mindful and in control, as well as less encumbered by our schedules and the already decided aspects of life. This would make us mindful, we would be able to detach from our worldly perspective and see clearer. We would not have to worry about as much and we know the choices we do not make cannot cause us suffering. Therefore we get to choose what to suffer for and objectively see how severely we will be affected by our desires. This detachment is a powerful mediation that can free up lots of time and rid of lots of unnecessary and foreseeable suffering.
