Bozzlife: Random Friday Photos @ Firekeepers Battle Creek, MI

It is probably a bit of a misnomer to call these random photos. The fact is last weekend @mrsbozz and I visited Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek, MI. It is actually a very nice facility just off the expressway about five minutes outside of the city.

Rooms at the hotel/casino were pretty expensive, but there is a lower end hotel a short distance from Firekeepers. You simply have to take a short walk across their parking lot and then a farm field to get there. Paths have been clearly worn through the field from people just like us doing the exact same thing.

The casino is right down the road from Michigan International Speedway and they are actually a sponsor of one of the major races there. I was still a bit surprised when we walked out of the casino and came up on this pace car.

I wasn't sure if it was there in an official capacity or if it was someones personal car so I didn't want to take too many pictures. The light bar on top kind of tells me it was there officially though.

This was the second time @mrsbozz and I have ever been here. The first time they were doing a bit of construction (actually, they were this time too), and not all of the restaurants were open. We decided to eat at the new tap house that wasn't there on our last visit.

I didn't get any pictures of the food, but it was just kind of "meh". We got a plate of chicken nachos to share and then I got some chicken wings for just me. The chicken wings were supposed to come in an order of six, but my plate only had five. I am not really the type to complain, plus we were starving, so I just ate them.

@mrsbozz pointed out that the chicken on the nachos tasted like it had been cooked in a crock pot. I personally don't have anything against crock pots, but it does tend to leave any chicken that is cooked in it a "certain way". I think the nachos would have been much better had they put some grilled chicken on them or something like that.

The drinks were good though and we stayed to have a couple more of those while we were waiting for our friends to show up. Plus there was a guy playing guitar and using a looping machine in the restaurant and he was actually pretty good so we enjoyed listening to him.

Despite all the craft beers they had on tap, when I saw they had PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon), I knew that was what I was going to be drinking. @mrsbozz stuck with her old standby Captain Morgan and Diet Coke.

We gamed for a bit and then visited another bar to wait a little longer for our friends to arrive. @mrsbozz switched over to drinking Tito's and lemon aid, while I switched over to Bulleit on the rocks. As is typically the case, the place was packed on both Friday and Saturday night and we had pretty poor luck. Our best run was Saturday morning when three of our foursome found an electronic craps table to make a bit of money on.

This Ford Galaxie was right near where we decided to wait for our friend and I had to get a picture of it. I wasn't too fond of the color, but I really like the car itself. There is an older guy near where we live that has a black one and we occasionally pass him around town. If I were to restore an old car, it would probably be one of these.

Saturday after gaming we went to a fantastic if not typical Mexican American restaurant called La Cocina (The Kitchen). As I said, the food was amazing, but they didn't have anything different than what most places like that have on their menu.

Since we had lunch at around one or two in the afternoon, it wasn't until about 9 that night that @mrsbozz and I were hungry again. Our friends were not so her and I went to a 24/7 cafe in the casino that we had eaten at on our previous visit and enjoyed.

She got a grilled chicken wrap with onion rings and I was feeling a bit like breakfast so I got this awesome skillet.

It was basically just fried potatoes, eggs, cheese, sausage gravy, and bacon in a bubbling hot cast iron pan. I figured I could only eat about half of it, but it was so good that I nearly finished all of it.

We got up fairly early on Sunday morning so we could get home to pickup Jovi from her grandparents house and then get started on laundry and other household chores we had.

Jovi was happy to be home, but tuckered out from chasing around all of the squirrels at @mrsbozz's parents. Once the house was in order, we all took a nap that day!

That sounds like a hell of a trip. All that food and drink and fun makes for a great story.

I would have made the switch to Bulliet as well. A good bourbon makes any adventure better.

I lived in Battle Creek briefly when i was with the federal government. There was a tiny little problem about the cereal factory being built on ground that was horribly contaminated with lead from a nearby paint factory that had existed since forever.

Great mountain biking in that city. It was over 15 years ago that i was there but i quite enjoyed it. Nice pics, I see you are still on your health food diet. You should live a little man!

Yeah, this was kind of a splurge weekend :) I have eaten my fair share of veggies through this past week to make up for it. I actually had to go get blood work done for my annual physical on Monday and for some reason I was deficient in a ton of vitamins. I can't imagine why! That doesn't surprise me about Battle Creek. I grew up and live near Midland, so we are constantly dealing with the whole Dow dioxin issue. I am not all-together uncertain that is part of what caused my cancer.
