Improving Your Self Confidence is not a one time thing. It is a process that must be used over again to keep the results positive. I think we all have reached a point in our lives where we can look back on the people we have known or the relationships we have had and see how far they have come in their own self confidence. It is very important to keep that level high as it is a good indicator of how we are progressing in life.
Overcoming the challenge of improving your self-confidence is like climbing a mountain. You will struggle at first and you may fall, but if you have the patience and perseverance to continue to build you will find that you get up each day stronger and you will manage to reach that goal. It is about building on the foundation that you have laid and just like building a house you need to have the right foundations to stand on. So, I believe that the best place to start is from your head and this article will guide you through what I believe are the key areas to improve your self confidence.
The first area I want to talk about is a topic that many people do not like to talk about which is your appearance. I know this is something that you have probably thought about and perhaps you even feel you have little control over this. If you have little control over your appearance than you have very little to no power over the way people perceive you and this is where you are losing out. Just as you would not put the top of your head out of the window in an auto racing scene, you should not put the pride of your body out there on display for the world to see.
To improve your self confidence, you should make sure that you treat yourself with respect. We can be mean and it can happen when you least expect it. So, if someone is treating you badly, simply ignore them and move on. Even if they are being nice to you, showing you a nice smile too, do not respond. Treat everyone around you with respect as well.
Another important area that you need to pay attention to is how you act around other people. It is amazing what people can say and do that can affect your own self confidence. For example, if you are having a conversation with a stranger and they say something to you that makes you uncomfortable such as "wow" or "you're pretty", you should stop the conversation immediately and reword the statement so that it does not hurt your feelings. Do not let that person continue to make you uncomfortable. You should look at that person again and tell them you understand they said that and it was a compliment. Do not take it personally because that person just may be trying to help you improve your self esteem.
One area that many people forget to improve their self-confidence is their breathing. If you are talking to someone and you find that your breath becomes fast or shallow or even smells bad, this is a sure sign that you have not impressed that person yet. Your body language needs to say "I am happy and positive" and not "I am not very happy". So always remember to breathe into a paper bag and hold it under your chin just above your nose for a few seconds. When your breath goes back to normal, you will see how much better your self talk is. It is an easy trick that you can try out right now and feel the difference in your mood that it makes.
Do not beat yourself up over little things. Most times we will hear other people saying negative things about us and it can make us feel bad but do not let it bother you. We all make mistakes. Our self-esteem is more important than what other people think about us. It is what makes us who we are inside and how we want to be perceived by others.
Finally, another important area to improve your self-confidence is to keep a diary of the things that you are happy with about yourself. This will help you stay motivated and also remind you of why you are making the progress that you are making. This can be a very effective method to follow when you are trying to improve. When you are motivated and constantly reminded of the good things about yourself, you will find that your self esteem gradually improves and you will feel better each and every day.
