Weekly Family Half Dollar Silver Hunt!!!
It is that time of the week again when the Farmers family searches through $1,000 worth of half dollars in the hunt for some silver! Look back on previous post for more information on why and how we accomplish this weekly traditional hunt.
It was a very intense hunt this afternoon. Who was going to find the first silver half dollar? We searched and we searched. It came down to the last few rolls and wouldn’t you know it, we got skunked. 2,000 half dollars and not a one of them was made of silver.
O well, you cannot hit a home-run every at bat. It turned out to be a good teachable moment for the kids. It has been about two months since we have been skunked on one of our silver hunts. They got pretty upset but it is good for them to understand that things do not always workout the way we want them to in life. Disappointment as much as we do not like it is a part of life. We just have to keep working hard and maybe next time we will hit the silver jackpot.
I did bring out our 2018 silver mason jar. This jar has all the silver half dollars we have found as a family for 2018. It has 117 silver half dollars in it. Not too bad if you ask me. Even though today was a no silver day we still had fun. There is always next week to find that elusive wild silver!

I've been learning about silver from an uncle. He now goes to all sorts of auctions and garage sales and buys old jewelry for dirt cheap and then melts it down into gold and silver mini bars. He's really starting to give me the bug. Great following you search.
I have not tried that yet. But I think it is an amazing idea. Let me know if you ever start doing it. Once you start itching that silver bug it is hard to stop;)
I'll have to take some pictures of my haul so far. Back in 2014 I was trading bitcoin for gold and silver pieces. Financially, I would have been better off keeping the btc though :)
