For the past 45 days we have been in full swing of kidding season. We had 82 mama goats that needed to have their babies. We are finally winding down the goat kidding season. We have baby goats everywhere!!! We have had about 130 baby goats so far and have just a handful of mama goats who have not had theirs yet. It has been a very successful kidding season for us here on the farm.

We just moved the goats from the pen up by the house where we had them to keep a closer eye on them. They were very excited to go to the new pen which is 30 acres and full of tall grass and a bunch of weeds. Weeds are like candy to the goats. They would rather eat a big weed then clover or grass. This makes them a valuable tool here on the farm to keep the weeds down and clear land. The goats will now rotate through one pasture a month until the end of August when we will bring them down to the barn for Goat Working Day! This is a day when we will check every goat and make sure they are healthy and wean the kids off of the moms. It is a crazy busy day but one of the funnest days here on the farm.

You wean them at the end of August? Seems like it should be sooner, ok I admit I am not a farmer so how would I know!

They are about 4 months old the end of August. You could wean them earlier but we have found if they stay on mom as long as possible they do better

Gotcha, then at what age do you sell them?

The females we sell right away when we wean them. The males we keep until the winter time then sell them.

To what purpose to you raise them? Mear or dairy? Or both? If you raise them for dairy what is your primary product?

They look lovely, as well as your pasture !

We raise them for breeding stock and for meat. Thank you for reading

Awesome herd! Great start to the year on the farm.

Thank you sir!

Great to see that things are going well with the goat herd. We are thinking of getting a couple to help feed our bottle calves

Thanks. We love our goats here.

it's a beautiful thing to see such a healthy herd @bowentroyer!
do you grow crops as well or just the livestock?
