When I first joined steemit, I saw some regular figures of which I thought it was money. At first, my eyes caught sight of the figure with the hash in front. Asides that figure, I also thought the figure beside my username also signifies money not until I later came to know it's my reputation on the platform.

Reputation matters a lot in every business as it determines or show the level of workers in that establishment. What is reputation and how does it work? What's it use on steemit and how do we check our reputation.

In this context, I'll be explaining what reputation in crypto mean in relation to steemit. "Reputation" refers to the credibility or capacity of an individual within a crypto community. It just like working in a company, Promotion is a way of adding to your reputation influenced by your credibility in business, matters arising and attitude towards work. From being a common worker to being a manager.

Once you attain this, your reputation is automatically increased coupled with your salary, value, recognition and respect compared to when you were a common worker. Reputation figures on steemit are how users on this platform get to know where you are or your position in regards to how credible you are and the level of respect users has for you.

The Higher the number of quality contents and comments created on the platform, the higher your reputation score perceived. It is also a sole determinant of the privileges and recognition you have on the platform. As you gain more reputation on steemit, the platform learns to trust you. Reputation is an essential factor to determine your success on Steemit. Having a high reputation score makes you visible on the platform most especially to the curators.

Determining reputation on steemit involves the following steps;

	Account creation of users: When a user creates an account on steemit, their reputation initially is 25 for a start.
	Voting and Engagement: The more upvotes a user receives on his post, the more impact on his reputation. Votes from higher reputation accounts has the ability of influencing a person's reputation positively and negatively.
	Creating quality content and engagement: This can also be another sole way of increasing one's reputation. In fact, I'm using this way to increase my reputation as there's no other way. Buying steems or steem power won't help in anyway as it doesn't count. If you could notice, when you created your achievement 1 and 2 post, your reputation increased from 25 to 40+. Checking the account steemcurator09, even with the steem power the account has, its reputation remais dormant or increases a little showing that buying or having lots of steem power doesn't really determines the increase in one's reputation.

• Consistency: This is an essential attribute necessary for one's growth on this platform. Without consistency, you barely can grow on the platform and consistency means doing your best in creating quality contents as it would undoubtedly be voted.

Since money can't buy reputation, my hardwork and consistency would be a sole determinant to the growth of my reputation. These are the strategies I am using to build my steem power.

• Creating quality contents consistently: This is one way of increasing my reputation on this platform and I've been doing this since I joined the platform. This is the reason why my reputation has increased from being 25 to 70. I've created over 3000 posts including comments of which it has added to my reputation.

• Engagement: Engagement also adds to my reputation and I've been commenting on more than 10 posts daily. Counted as a post, this has also added to my reputation.

• Participation in contests and increasing the number of followers I have on the space. This helps and has helped.

Technology has made it possible to know one's SP now without needing to calculate as did years back. This was a format;

• Calculate the log base 10 of the raw score from your steemd.com/@bossj23

• Subtract 9 from the number.

• Multiply the number by 9

• Add 25 to the number

Once you get this final number, you round down and get your reputation score.

Since I joined this platform, I've never seen a reduced reputation but it's important to note that reputation score do go down. It's just like you're working as an accountant in a company. On one occasion, you're caught stealing and announced. Your reputation would definitely go down as you've stained your name and reputation. You have betrayed that trust and credibility your colleagues had for you.

One's reputation score on steemit can go down if a user creates low quality content consistently instead of creating quality contents. Down votes occasionally and flagging of one's post can actually reduce his or her reputation. Indulgence in misconducts on the platform like Plagiarism, spamming and cross posting can in one way or the other reduce someone's reputation score. So we as steemians should try our best in ensuring we increase our reputation score instead of decreasing it.
