Not a day without holidays!
18 February - Sunday
Winter Troyan!
Winter Trojan is an important date for the ancient Slavs. This day our ancestors considered the day of military glory, when many Russian soldiers fell from Roman soldiers in the Danube region, near Troyanogo Val (the etymology of the name has not yet been clarified). Most likely, the Troyan Val was a defensive mound, but perhaps a small outpost was erected at this place.
The soldiers fought, not folding their arms and not showing their backs. This holiday is also known under the names "Stribozhy grandsons", "commemoration of the fallen at Troyanov Val".
Unfortunately, today much has not been clarified from the history of the heroic exploit of Troyanogo Val, including the exact date (around 101 AD) and other details. This episode in the history of Ancient Rus is clearly mentioned in the Veles book and is lauded in The Lay of Igor's Host:
"The Romans envied us and planned evil for us - they came with their wagons and iron armor and struck at us, and so they fought back from them for a long time and threw them away from our land; and the Romans, seeing that we are firmly defending our lives, left us "(Veles book).
"And they fell on the straight path to the triune, and Stribogov's grandchildren dance over them, and weep over them in the fall, and in the winter they are lamented about them. And marvelous wonders say that they perished gloriously and left their lands not to their enemies, but to their sons. And so we are their descendants, and we will not be deprived of the land "(Veles book).
Ancient warriors-Slavs thought of descendants and of the Greatness of the Russian lands-they were not afraid of death, but entered the battle, without even admitting thoughts of betrayal, retreat or surrender to the enemies.
So will we be worthy of the lives of our ancestors - since ancient times the Slavs were taken on this day to do something heroic, dangerous, useful for the Motherland or family and to remember at the table of brave warriors.
