How many scars did we justify because we loved the person holding the knife?

The first time I came across this question, I didn't give too much thought to it. However, I have found myself times and times again in situations that make me question my emotions and sense of reasoning, if I really should go on forgiving and loving. We often forgive the wrongs of people we love because we love them and give them the chance to hurt us again. We even excuse their actions, giving reasons to why they treat us awfully, allowing them to ride us sometimes without even realizing it. We say things like "oh, they are really busy they forgot to check up on us despite knowing about our ill health", "she has a crazy boss who stresses her out almost all the time, it's understandable she'd forget she promised to hang out this weekend", "he's busy with studies he wouldn't have the time..." Why? Because we love them!

Shall we continue to justify the hurts?

Should we be human beings or human doings?

During one philosophical discussion with a couple of friends, the question came up, human beings or human doings? We continue to be ourselves because we are beings, we exist but shouldn't we be doings since we live our lives doing things? We are beings because we continually do things, we are being...(play of words). When people do something wrong, we sigh and say, after all, we are all human beings."

Would you rather be a human being or a human doing?

If someone does one wrong, don't forget all the good they have done.

This is another reason we use in justifying scars, we go on and on and on about a particular good a fellow has done to has and forget the numerous times we got stabbed, back and front, by this fellow. We eulogize and even recommend them based on the one good they have done for us. Then again, should we cut people off because of their wrongdoings?

I keep pondering, maybe I'll get the answers someday.
