Can we talk?
Hey darling, how are you today? Can you spare me a few minutes of your time so we can talk? Oh! Thank you. Sit please. Would you like a cup of coffee or tea? Or just orange juice will do? Please feel at home and be free with me.
If I were to ask you if you are satisfied with yourself and all you've achieved, would you say you are satisfied or not? Many times, in shooting for the stars we get the moon and become contented, forgetting our target, ignoring our potentials.
Yes, maximally utilize the present, enjoy it, celebrate yourself but don't get stuck there! Think outside the box!
- What can more can I do?
- How do I improve myself?
- What are my weaknesses and flaws?
- What are my strengths?
- What opportunities do I have?
- How am I impacting others?
These questions and more you should daily ask yourself. Remember the story I once shared from who moved my cheese? by Charles Spencer about the two mice (Sniff and Scurry)and the two small people (Hem and Haw)? The cheese in that story is what we want in life (joy, an amazing partner, a great family, awesome job with a terrific pay, peace of mind, beautiful houses and cars and lovely kids amongst others), but as in that story we sometimes lose focus after getting some of the things we desire.
We all have a little Haw, Hem, Sniff and Scurry in us. Sometimes, we are innovative, at other times we are stabilized, often times we are productive but just like Scurry, we get tired and want to quit or become contented with the little we have like Hem. We are need to become more like Haw, who haven learnt his lessons (in hunger) traced the way and left writings on the wall for others to follow when they begin their journey.
How do you know you are Hem?
- nothing motivates you anymore (not even hunger or fear of failure, you become a preacher of what will be, will be)
- you never want to leave your comfort zone (either for fear of failure or rejection)
- you are too much of a perfectionist (if it's not perfect, it's a no go area, you won't start until it is totally flawless)
