Digital Vs Analogue: advantage, disadvantage and some things you did not know
Digital Vs Analogue
Good day and welcome to my blog, I hope you are fairing well. In today's post, I wish to differentiate between a digital and Analogue systems. I will try to bring up as many examples as possible.
The time on the watch above is displayed using an analogue system where the passing of time is indicated by an increase in degree created between the hour and minute hand.
What Makes a System Analogue
A system is said to be an Analogue system when it processes and interprets changes in physical quantities which comes as continue values.
An Analogue signal.
This is a signal that has been modulated on any suitable carrier medium, such that the change in it's frequency or amplitude is the message which can be understood by an Analogue device.

What Makes a System Digital
A system is described as digital if it understands and processes data in a binary format which is made up zeros and ones.
A Digital signal.
This is a signal made up of regular pulses from a pulse generator and the intelligence is modulated into the signal by a logic gate resulting in ones and zeros.
What Makes a System Hybrid
A system is said to be a hybrid system if it can manipulate physical quantities as an Analogue system and is also capable of processing data in a binary format.
To put it simple, any device that can manage both Analogue and digital signal is called a hybrid system.
Source hybrid systems have both features...
Digital Vs Analogue
Digital System | Analogue System |
---|---|
Signal is continuous | Signal is discrete |
Often Represented by sine waves | Better Represented by square waves |
very fast processing | comparatively slow |
Makes poor sensors | are very good sensors |
Makes poor measuring instruments | excellent measuring instruments |
Makes data storage easy | stores very limited quantity |
Degital systems have some area where it is preferred and Analogue systems also have areas where they do better, in order to benefit from both side, hybrid systems that use the advantage of both sides are better than pure Analogue or pure digital System.
While the calculator we use are mostly digital devices, our cellphones and laptops are hybrid devices. And while many tend to think of analogue as old and digital as being new, you may be truly surprised to learn that the jacquard loom was a digital none electronic system [at least the input unit associated with punch cards] it was able to read holes as zeros and a lack of hole as one. This is where the idea of memory cards and card readers came from.

Remark
Great post, keep it up.
Hello @bobwalter , your post have been supported by @reminiscence01 using @steemcurator07 account.
Thank you for making a post in the #Science/ #Computing/ #Technology category. We appreciate the work you have put in this post.
We have analyzed your post and come up with the following conclusion:
Yeah @bobwalter, this is like a secret I have never known before now. You know immediately we all saw digital technology we all abandoned the analogue system. But by your explanations here, we actually supposed to be in between of the two systems. Having the knowledge of the two. Thank you for opening our eyes to this hidden knowledge.
Wow, clear explanation. This is informative.
I can see clearly that hybrid systems are much more better. Thanks @bobwalter
