The true power within you
It has not come accidentally for a human to be the leader of this planet, we are what we are thanks to what we think, to what we can think.
If you want to become more than just a human then you have to master your mind.
From the anatomy to physiology and even to psychology the brain is still the master of your body. And an amazing thing which I am going to tell you today is that you can be a master of your mind.
Lao Tzu an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer have said that
Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is the true power!
It is easier to do things you know, and you can't master your mind when you don't know much about your mind.
Google dictionary say that mind is
Element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.
According to the famous psychologist Sigmund Freud there are three levels of mind:
- Conscious mind = 10% of human capacity
- Subconscious or preconscious mind= 50-60%
- Unconscious mind = 30-40%
These words are mostly used but not all people know their real meanings and this hinders the mind mastering process.
1. Conscious mind
Most people call this the awareness but to say that other mind levels are not aware is a wrong statement.
If we compare mind with a ship, the conscious mind is like a captain of the ship who is giving orders but not driving the ship.
And when comparing this to the computer system, the conscious mind is like a monitor displaying input information from a keyboard (we can compare the keyboard with the environment that conscious mind is aware of). The conscious mind is what makes people determine who you are.
2. Subconscious mind
This is the mind level that has more human capacity than others. It has a stronger sense of awareness of our surroundings than even our conscious mind, reason why they suggest that it is as our sixth sense.
The subconscious mind is always awake even when we are sleeping or anesthetic so that it can perform necessary functions.
Comparing this with a ship, subconscious and unconscious minds are like that crew in the engine room. They are the ones driving the ship by executing orders from the captain (conscious mind) depending on how they are trained.
Let's also compare it with a computer system, the subconscious mind is like RAM (Random Access Memory) this is where a computer saves currently running programs and frequently needed information.
It stores recent memories. From here your mind stores mostly needed information like behavior patterns, your telephone numbers..... So here you will find current running programs in your mind.
3. Unconscious mind
One of the reasons to be called unconscious is that information in this mind level cannot be accessed consciously or voluntarily. The conscious mind is like ROM (read-only memory). Information stored here can only be modified slowly, with difficulty, or not modified at all. Here are stored programs unlikely to need frequent updates or use.
Your conscious mind stores all memories, past experiences that we forget consciously or which are not important to us, everything that happened since birth.
From these memories and past experiences, beliefs and behaviors are formed.
How do these 3 levels work together
Conscious mind communicates outside to inner self by means of pictures, writing, speech, physical movement, and thoughts.
Conscious also communicate with the unconscious mind via the subconscious mind through feelings, emotions, imaginations, sensations, and dreams.
So by pictures, writing, speech, physical movements and thoughts that you focus on, your conscious mind will communicate to the subconscious and the last to the unconscious where the needed programs will start running to handle what is on your focus.
Marvelous power within yourself
By starting this article I told you that to be the leaders of this planet has not come accidentally. It's because of the power within us; the power of our mind.
Subconscious (RAM) mind that has the stronger sense of awareness of our surroundings, can handle more than 11 million bits of data per second. It directly communicates with the unconscious (ROM) and obeys the orders made by ourselves consciously; orders by conscious mind which can only handle 40 bits of data per second.
Subconscious mind obeying the orders from the conscious mind, is the marvelous power within us, this is the true power to whoever that can master his or her mind.
So this is to mean that when you focus on something consciously, your subconscious mind will obediently deliver feelings, emotions, and memories associated with that what you're focusing on.
When it needs more information and programs that are associated with your focus, it will directly access your unconscious mind. This is where it will get access to past experiences, beliefs, habits, and behaviors associated with your focus.
The more you focus on something the more the new habits, beliefs, and behaviors are formed.
The study has been done on 3 groups of basketball players.
🏀 The first group has been allowed to do daily physical training for 20 days, throwing the ball through a hoop.
🏀 The second group has not been allowed to train at all.
🏀 The third group has been allowed to take 20 minutes daily imagining that they are throwing a ball through a hoop and instructed that if they fail they have to adjust until they throw the ball correctly.
And the result was amazing, the 1st group improved their score by 24%, the second group has not obviously improved then the 3rd group improved by 23%, amazing!
Don't underestimate the power of your mind, the power of orders from conscious to the subconscious mind.
The true difference between these 3 levels of mind
Some people say the conscious mind is the awareness and forget the fact that even when we are sleeping we are aware of somethings thanks to the subconscious mind. Subconscious and unconscious minds are about memories (long-term and short-term). So true difference comes in 2 things that conscious mind can do that others can not (another power within us).
1. Ability to direct focus
You will hear from different motivational speakers saying that focus on what you want, and you may ask yourself what can that bring for me?
Directing your focus is not as hard as you think not even as simple as you think but easier when you choose to.
If you want to direct your focus you just have to choose how and what you think.
You can construct or destroy your destiny by your choice on what and how you think.
They say that the only thing in this world you can fully control is your thoughts. You can jail a man's body but you will never jail his mind. Many revolutionists that have been jailed came out of the jail with a stronger mindset than before.
2. Ability to imagine what is not real
According to this genius of modern physics, Albert Einstein imagination is more important than knowledge. Imagination is the unique feature for conscious mind among others.
The conscious mind is able to think and imagine something totally new and unique that you have never experienced before, this is where creativity comes from.
How to master your mind
This may not be something new in your ears, you may have even wondered how you can master your mind. This is the time to learn how, the time for you to make your brain work for you.
According to Lao Tzu mastering yourself is the true power and as you know you can not gain power in an easy way, no quick path, no shortcut or tricks. To become a master of your mind requires real decision, daily practices, and commitment.

To become a CEO of a company you have to master that business and its employees, you have also to know how to treat them.
Here is step by step method to become a CEO of your brain; to become a master of your mind:
1st step: LISTEN AND ACKNOWLEDGE
If you want your brain to work for you, you have to listen to HIM and acknowledge what HE is doing as does every good leader.
Every employee feels better and motivated when his or her employer understands him/her or when S/he shows him or her gratitude for what has been done, the same applies to your brain.
Tell your mind that thank you for doing this and that to me and as you proved to me that this is wrong I'll not do that again.
Your mind needs you to listen to his warnings and advises HE needs you to show gratitude to what has been achieved so far.
2nd step: MAKE PEACE WITH YOUR MIND
Your mind may do wrong, bringing the negative thoughts, maybe it has taken wrong decisions or not conducting well. You have to know that it's normal for that to happen. You live with your mind and you can't get it out of yourself.
So no other option other than accepting that what happened have happened then let's move on the next step without producing same errors.
You don’t necessarily have to like the thoughts or agree with them, you just have to let them be there in the background of your mind, while you go out and get things done.
3rd step: REALIZE YOUR THOUGHTS ARE JUST THOUGHTS
The mind is within us, living together undifferentiated and this becomes difficult for us to become like an external observer and realize that sometimes what we think are just thoughts.
Some people feel guilty when they pass aside of a beautiful girl or handsome boy and think what they call evil. And they start blaming their selves (why I thought about this, last time I told you, God, that I'll never think about evil again, why me? Why I always fail?)
Let me tell you that our thoughts are passing, mental events, influenced by our moods, states of hunger or tiredness, physical health, hormones, sex, the weather, what we watched on TV last night, what we ate for dinner, what we learned as kids, and so on.
You can't just wake up and say stop to those thoughts, that will require you hourly and daily fights for habits to be developed.
4th step: OBSERVE YOUR OWN MIND
When we say observe your mind, you will understand meditation, mindfulness. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
This is a practice our mind needs most often to reduce stress, enhance performance, gain insight and awareness through observing our own mind, and increase our attention to others’ well-being.
When you sit in nature and focus on flowers, trees or water you start wondering on unsolved questions and by observing your mind you will poke your mind that, come on your focus. And by developing those habits through frequent meditation, your mind will be reprogrammed to focus on what you want.
It will become easier for you to say don't think about that, as it was easy for you to say don't focus on tree but flowers.
5th step: RETRAIN YOUR MIND TO REWIRE YOUR BRAIN
From where I started you can easily understand why I always repeat these words "You become what you think about".
When certain brain pathways or connections between different components or ideas are frequently repeated, the neurons begin to transmit information together in a rapid, interconnected sequence. This is how habits are formed.
By thinking of things frequently and repeatedly in the same sequence of information reception and perception, our brain becomes used to such processes to the level where that will be easier for it in the future.
6th step: PRACTICE SELF-COMPASSION
There are many irreversible things that happen to us. They say life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we perceive them.
Sometimes it is hard to impossible to control some situations that happen to us. But we have a choice on how to perceive them.
When bad situations come, think about the good moments you shared with your friends. You have to look positive in every situation. This is hard but possible.
Due to the fact that your subconscious mind doesn't know which is real or imagination, you can fool it.
When you give it orders to keep calm, it will generate emotions and brings about beliefs, habits, and behaviors associated with those orders you gave.
To conclude, by understanding the 3 levels of your mind and how they work together it will get easier for you to master your mind.
You have to remember that the conscious mind is the only one that has the ability to direct the focus and to imagine or think things that have never existed. And this is the power we have, as the subconscious mind obeys the orders from the conscious mind. Whenever you focus on something, your mind will develop related habits and beliefs.
To become the master of your mind, you have to first know your mind, listen to it, treat it kindly, make peace with it and acknowledge its contribution. By doing so, your mind will pay you by working for you! Make your brain work for you.
