Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice 金峰魯肉飯 Review

Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 is my favorite place for braised pork rice in Taiwan. Braised pork rice (AKA Lu Rou Fan) is a simple dish but the way Jin Feng does it is masterful. The pork extremely tender. It barely qualifies as a solid object. The pork broth is placed over the rice and just makes everything very savory and satisfying.

Definitely not one of the most healthy meal in Taiwan, but it is one of the tastiest! Check out my YouTube Video on Eating at Jin Feng Braised Pork Rice. It's also list on my Best Restaurants in Taipei list.

Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 is a very local Taiwanese restaurant. That means the prices are low and the service is fast!

Most of the time when you show up at Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 there will be line. But don't worry, it moves surprisingly fast! Why? Because it's like an amusement park ride. You take any seat that is open. Ideally you want to show up here as a small group. Preferably by yourself to jump in the "single-rider" line.

That just means, if you show up to Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 by yourself (or even with one other person), you'll be seated at any available seat. That could mean sitting with strangers. It's no big deal, just don't make eye contact with anyone. That's the rule.

This style of sharing a table with strangers is very common at small restaurants when it's VERY busy. Don't worry though, it's not too often you'll run into this Taipei. Or worry if you do enjoy it. Make that eye contact. Go for it!

Ordering food at Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 is easy. There will be a laminated menu with English, Chinese and Japanese on it. The actual order form is only in Chinese so you'll have to match up the Chinese name with the order form. It's a small challenge, but achievable!

Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯 is one of my favorite places because it's also super affordable! NT$30 (US$1) for a super tasty (small) meal. That's one of the best deals you can get in Taiwan!

When you've filled out your form, just hand it to one of the waiters running by. They'll look it over and confirm your order with you.

Moments later, you'll arrive in Flavortown: The Braised Pork District. Your heart may skip a beat because it's very unhealthy and super tasty. Eat slow and savor it.

When you're ready to order, you'll see your order form at the side of your table. Just pick that up and bring it up to the cashier to pay. Enjoy!

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It's very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It's more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It's extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express.
UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
