Moving Star Hotel 星動銀河旅 Review

Overall 5/5
Room 5/5
Service 4/5
Amenities 4/5
Breakfast 3/5
Ambiance 5/5

I had a fantastic stay at Moving Star Hotel in Taichung. It was only a 1-night stay while visiting Sun Moon Lake and Lihpao land, but it was a great one!

When you check-in, you're greeted by a robot. I don't know what he said, but he said something in Chinese. His eyes kept following me until I quickly ran away.

In the lobby, there's a few tables to hang out and have a seat. What I really liked was that they has 8 arcade stations. They were these small arcade style emulator machines with hundreds of video games on them. All games were free and you can quickly lose yourself playing them.

5/5 Room
The room was big! Got a slightly upgraded room for a little more money and was worth the space. Everything was super clean and stylish. In the bathroom, they had a premium toto bidet seat which is always amazing to have.

There was a desk that turned into a computer station very easily too. It was well thought out and very considerate to have.

5/5 Location
Moving Star Hotel is only a 10-minute walk to Taichung Train Station. This was very convenient and there are a lot of good restaurants in the immediate area.

Above you in the lobby are toy space ships that move around on tracks. You can also find free cold tea in the lobby.

There's a "playroom" if you have small children and want to unload them on another person for awhile.

On the 9th floor, you'll find the "aerobics room" which is a small room with 2 treadmills and 1 exercise bike.

Breakfast: Moving Star Hotel 星動銀河旅

3/5 Breakfast
Breakfast was just okay and is served on the 2nd floor. During lunch and dinner hours, it's actually a Thai restaurant.

The breakfast was more catered to the Taiwanese palette than the Western palette. They did have a machine that brewed fresh coffee that I used. As someone with a strong Western taste, I didn't really like the selection of breakfast but that's a good thing. I really wanted to have brunch at the nearby Fourth Credit Union.

Overall Impression of PLACE REVIEW

Overall I'd stay at Moving Star Hotel again. I think I just like the robot themed everything and it was extremely modern.

Money In Taiwan

Tax Is Included In The Price

All displayed prices in Taiwan are the actual price. Tax is already included and for large purchases, tourists visiting Taiwan can get a 5% Taiwan VAT refund at the airport Tax Refund counter. Some shops offer this service too, but they will require your passport.

Taiwan Is Cash Only (For Most Small Shops)

The primary payment method for all transactions in Taiwan is cash. It's very rare for small shops to take anything other than cash. It's more common to see places accept the Taipei Metro Card as payment rather a credit card.

Supermarkets and convenience stores in Taiwan (7-Eleven, Family Mart) do not accept credit cards (at least not American credit cards). You can only make purchases by cash or by using your pre-loaded funds on your EasyCard.

Using Credit Cards in Taiwan

If you want to use your credit card in Taiwan, make sure to check if a restaurant in Taiwan accepts credit card in advance. When a place does accept credit card, it will typically be Visa or Mastercard. It's extremely rare for a place to accept Discover and American Express.
UberEats, HonestBee, Deliveroo and FoodPanda are Taipei Food Delivery Services where you can order food directly to your airbnb or hotel using a credit card.

Exchanging Money in Taiwan

You can exchange money at the airport or any bank in Taiwan. The rates vary from bank to bank and it can be a hassle to get a good rate. For additional information, check out my Exchanging Money In Taiwan Guide.
