Congress Already Has The Tool To Fix Facebook: The Blockchain Caucus
You’re not the only person who cringed as members of Congress asked Mark Zuckerberg awkward questions about technology and how Facebook works. There was a clear knowledge-gap. But I was cringing for another reason:
How does Congress have a Blockchain Caucus, but remain unaware how to make progress on data security?
The answer for “how to fix Facebook” and similar data ownership problems is literally right on the Congressional Blockchain caucus website.
Look, I know communication between parties (and even chambers) can be difficult, but this is a good place to start building solutions where there is already common ground. In fact, the Blockchain Caucus’ own talking point is dead on and a perfect place to start: hacking and fraud is at an all-time high and blockchain could put power back into the hands of users.
Instead of being reactive to data security problems, I want to see members of Congress openly collaborate with blockchain technology leaders to solicit solutions and gain insight. There doesn’t have to be a technology divide between Washington and Silicon Valley and there certainly shouldn’t be one between the House and the Senate.
We have the tools to make real progress on an issue that impacts nearly all Americans, let’s work together to build it.
