The magic of "embedding" for better posts.

in GEMS6 years ago

From adding source to your creative common images, support your article with examples from outside or extend the roots of your message to a different websource, embedding can come in very handy.

In simple terms embedding is basically integrating content which can be a video, image, song, website, gif or even a real-time clock into your post. It not only enhances the visual aspect of your posts, but also encourages engagement and CTR, if you have a platform that enables that.

Embedding can take a plain or even wonky looking post to very professional like piece of work. This obviously brings the numbers in, but the ease of access and aesthetic makes it more pleasing and welcoming to your audience.

In this post I will share some tips and tricks on how to embed some basic things on your posts.

Hyperlinks

This is my favorite. It is simple, effective and makes the post look sleek and pleasing. Basically hyperlinking is a hypertext document that acts like a link and redirects your audience members when they click on them.

Hyperlinking is my favorite form of embedding as it can be very dynamic and you can get very creative with it while not having to paste a boring and ugly looking URL.

Example:

If you clicked it then it should have taken you to my my profile on steempeak.

Without embedding this I would have to share this with you - https://steempeak.com/@bind-spot

uhhhhhh.

UGLY! and so not COOL!

Doesn't embedding feel and look better? I can just say something like "click here to view my profile on steempeak" is much nicer. Don't you think?

To embed links or create a hyperlink all you have to do is:

  • For steempeak - Click on the Insert Link option  or alternatively Press (Ctrl+l) on windows or (Command+l) on mac.
  • Next just add the URL in URL line and the text like "Click here" or whatever suits you in the text line. You can also do the square and round brcket. [Text] and next to it (link).

Embedding videos

To personalize youur blog posts or even add a a hint fo flare you can choose to embed videos along with your text posts. You can do this for the aesthetic, to share a new video or whatever you like

What does embedding a video do?

1. It provides another dynamic by having a video among your text blocks. Also adding another form of media and/or source fo unformation elevates the blog.

2. It also allows you to have multiple videos in one post.

3. You can have a separate thumbnail for your post and a spearate one for your video.

How to embed youtube / dtube videos?

You could just paste a link of your youtube/dtube clip or you could embed that link to make a hyperlink.  However, adding a link or hyperlink will not allow the video to be played on your post but will redirect your audience to youtube/dtube.

It always is much better to embed the video itself and have your video play here and keep your audience here, too.

To embed a youtube video Go to your youtube video on youtube and right click on the video.  A dropdown will appear, click on "copy embeded code".

Go to your draft on HIVE and paste the embed link you copied into the draft.

Now this video is ready to be viewed. Embedded like a boss! You can do this again and again and have as many videos as you like in your post.

Sourcing

Embedding has become my golden standard for sourcing free images or any image for that matter. Sourcing is very important and make sure you never use anyone's work without ever sourcing them. It is very very naughty and can get you in an oopsie situation.

You could always simply paste the source link and call it a day. Or you could get a little more fancy, dear blogger, and embed it. For example:

THUMBNAIL SOURCE.

You could also always embed the source within the picture itself. That means just by clicking on the image the source will be revealed.

Here try it out, click the image!

Click the image and let me know where it redirects you.

To do this you need to simply use the image in square brackets [image] and right next to it put the source in round brackets (source).
Done! Its that easy!

As you keep getting better with more practice in the embedding field you will discover all the ways to enhance your posts and make them better.
