STEEM: A COMMUNITY THAT MADE HISTORY.

in GEMS4 years ago (edited)

As the troops of tron hung flags of victory and ran around their own dinner tales singing songs of self-praise, something was boiling under the castle. The steemians were small in numbers, but very brave and strong. The takeover once again proved everyone that no matter how much we hated each other or quarreled among ourselves, we always did it for the sake of steem.

As the burning Sun was shining down the alleys where once steemians steemed, history was being made. Under the castle, in the dungeons, the most active and passionate steemians found their way through the tunnels to meet. Later it became clear that there were way more 230 steemians, but most were preoccupied. It was a townhall meeting in a dungeon where many once conspired against each other and where a lot of civil wars were fought, but today all were here for each other.

The meeting went on for well over 5 hours. A lot of fingers were pointed and a lot of suggestions were being made. Some were there just for the free booze and moral support. Were there a few tron spies? Could have been, but no one gave a rat's ass.

Eventually as the dust settled and the blame game was coming to a halt, the steemians realised it was almost similar to the story of 300. There was a delusional merciful self-proclaimed God of sorts who had come to conquer us, and then there were us - 300ish strong and brave.

The townhall had just begun blossoming - we had gathered ideas, strategies and most importantly agreed to do nothing rash, impulsive and risky. The first step had to be to ring the bells of awareness on twitter - which tron and Justin called home.

As the townhall continued, tweets were being sent out. Steemians made sure to get the word out, word of the malpractice by tron, Justin and the colluding exchanges. As time passed and ideas were being discussed we got news of the first fire torch of support. Among the tiny waves of steem tweets one tweet by Luke Stokes caught the eyes of blue tick Vitalik. Game on, we knew what had to be done. The tweeting worked.

Constant barrage of tweets mentioning news sources, public figures and crypto enthusiasts explaining the situation and mentioning the names of the involved kept going out. One by one all were getting noticed and more people were getting involved but Justin made no noise as he stared down at the havoc from the top towers.

Eventually, more news reports were being published and crypto influencers were now making videos. More content creators did their research and posted as much as they could. Tiny fights broke out between steemians and tron supporters.BUT THE PRESSURE WAS ON. Even Ned tried to speak out but failed miserably and locked himself in his guitar room.

And then, cz-binance broke silence and promised to rectify the mistake in a few hours. That wasn't enough, more pressure was applied by the small steem troop. Proof of money going up and down was shown and how blatantly the witnesses were replace by bots came to light. This was not about steem anymore, it was about the integrity and the future of crypto and blockchain technology. Not to mention, a massive weakness in dpos was exposed.

The townhall rejoiced but did not stop planning and working. Evetually Justin cracked under the pressure and had to call the witnesses "hackers" in a failed attempt to control damage. His BS was easily called out and it didn't work well for him. The whole world was watching and steem only grew stronger.

As more outside people got involved, the news spread like fire through tweets, news articles and electronic content. Tron's armor plating was falling and they were taking damage. Eventually binance was backing off, but the skies weren't clear, yet.

Tron's fortitude was breaking from the inside. Top devs from steemit one by one announced their retirements in a very similar and cryptic manner. Nevertheless, it made Stinc and tron much weaker. We were winning.

Meanwhile, in the townhall we decided it was time to vote our own community witnesses into the top 20 - at least 4 of them. This would stop any further hard forks. We also had to make sure our counter attacks did not burn bridges that could cripple steem in the future. We had to take back steem efficiently. Within no time we recieved much needed back up by accounts that were once never interested - they were voting for witnesses. Everyone went out to vote for our own witnesses and proxies were released to make it easier.
Plans of protests continued and more plans to take back steem were in the making.

The small but strong community showed what it could do in the face of a calamity. Some even went as far as saying steem is aggressive, and we had to be. We were in the face of a giant. We had to muster up all strength and forget our differences for once. Eventually we had our first witness breach the top 20. Screenshots of how different a bot witness and a community chosen witness were released. Yabapmatt, roelandp, good-karma and anyx were the first 4 to breach. We even claimed 1st and 2nd position. The fake throne of tron was shattering.

I was glad to see how much had happened in such a short time. Thanks to how tight knit community we are and how much we love steem. With the right intentions and a powerful motivation fuelling us we made history in the crypto and blockchain books. ura-soul has the entire recording of what tron had to say. For now, it seems like we are getting our blockchain back. Hard to tell who's neck should be on the guillotine? The ones who decided the sf that got the ball rolling, tron for the malicious and forced take over, or ned who apparently didn't explain what he was selling?
