Local Comic Shop Day!!! Saturday November 23rd!!!
It seems every month or so there is a gimmicky day designed to drag customers away from their computers and into their local comic book shops. Free Comic Book Day, Halloween Comicfest, Batman Day, and what is being celebrated just mere hours from now...Local Comic Shop Day. The only one that really works well is FCBD but I don’t fault them fir trying these other ones. I just wish there was more creativity and exclusivity to it rather than a bunch of reprints as that isn’t going to get the average person excited.
Anyhoo...Local Comic Shop Day is mainly a day designed for your local comic shop. If you do t know where your local shop is...shame on you. Also...pop on over to the site and see where your closest participating shop is ya slacker!!!
Not any shop can participate as there are certain rules for shops to abide by. First off...there needs to be a brick & mortar storefront. No “only website” shops allowed. Second, you can’t sell the books before the release date...there’s also an entry fee on top of purchasing the books...no holds...and prepare to be severely allocated as some of the merchandise is very limited.
The idea is to get folks excited by releasing sone cool variant covers that are only available through this specific method. Some of the items are super limited and orders got cut across the board. Take fir example New Mutants and the Legion of Superheroes issues. We ordered like 12-15 copies of each and got allocated down to 1 copy of the LOSH, while we got 2 of the New Mutants. Expect those to fetch some coin.
I’d also expect the Walking Dead issue to do fairly well. Being that the main run ended months back, there haven’t been any new issues for fans of the series to sink their teeth into. Until now!!! Brian K Vaughn dazzles in this first time in print story. It was published online a while back but this is the first time its an actual physical comic. Also the fact that one of the more popular writers in the biz took the reigns on it...is expect a bit of demand for this one as well.
How each shop deals with distributing these is solely up to them. Sone will sell at cover price...some above. Sone hold contests and raffles...it’s all dependent on the shop, so do your research before you make the trek!

We let 0 people have plop mud in our dumper on this fine day so that’s a plus. This day/event (if you can even fall it that) is pretty much a flop. Had a few folks trickle in fir the books tied to the day but when the offerings are just books and stories that they have already read or will read soon, it’s not that special. The Walking Dead Book has never been printed before but it’s online for fans to read. I wish the publishers would release truly exclusive books for these events as that’s the way to garner interest...but what do I know?!?
