As I mentioned in my last publications, the rainy season has started here in Venezuela. Today has been a rainy day since dawn until now that night is approaching. The day has been very fresh and the best ... I could enjoy the rich smell of wet earth, which I love since I was a child. I do not know how many of you like it, but for me it is very special.

Did you know that smell has a scientific name?

Once I read the news, I had the opportunity to find an article that explained it, it is called petrichor. This word was put into circulation for the first time, in the journal Nature, thanks to the Australian geologists Isabel Joy Bear and RG Thomas, and is made up of "petra" which means stone and "ichor" which means the blood of the gods.

The authors described it as "the smell that comes from an oil released by certain plants during periods of drought". This oil is absorbed by the surface of rocks, mainly from sedimentary rocks such as clay, and when it comes into contact with rain, it is released into the air along with another compound. The mixture produces the smell of rain that we really like. Rain mixes with soil compounds and forms air bubbles that release aromatic particles into the atmosphere that are able to influence our emotions.

That's why, rain can trigger something in us, whether it's a nostalgic feeling, of joy, of serenity, the petrichor or better known as Wet Earth Odor, it connects us with nature and makes us live a few moments away from the chaos from the city.
