Think of the suffering that Joseph suffered:

He was sold by his brothers, became a slave in Egypt, ended up in prison unfairly despite receiving the dream of his brothers prostrating before him, however, never lost confidence in God and communion with him. He, until the time came when the prophecy came true: he became a deputy of Pharaoh, a rich and powerful man, and before him his brothers bowed.

Genesis 50: 18-21

18 And his brethren also came and fell down before him, and said, Behold, we are your servants. 19 And Joseph said to them, Be not afraid; Am I in God's place? 20 You thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to do what we see today, to keep many people alive. 21 Now, then, do not be afraid; I will support you and your children. So he consoled them, and spoke to their hearts.

Joseph was able to take revenge and unload all his bitterness on them; he could even kill them, but he did not avenge himself, he did not return evil with evil, he did not put himself in God's place, as the Lord had shown him his mercy, so he did with them.

Joseph had understood that all the evil suffered was in God's plan and was directed to the good of his people. In fact, the Lord used it to bless all the people of Israel. His heart was healed and he was able to comfort his brothers and meet their needs.

Joseph overcame evil with good, followed the divine principle that the apostle Paul also teaches us.

Romans 12: 17-21

17 Pay no man evil for evil; seek what is good in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Do not avenge yourselves, my beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God; because it is written: Mine is revenge, I will pay, says the Lord. 20 So, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for by doing this, embers of fire will heap on your head. 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

The same things were said by Jesus in the discourse of the mountain.

Luke 6: 27-31

27 But to you who hear, I say to you: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you; 28 Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who slander you. 29 Whoever strikes you on one cheek, offer him also the other; and to the one who takes away your cloak, not even the tunic you deny him. 30 Give to anyone who asks; and to the one who takes what is yours, do not ask for it to be returned to you. 31 And as you want men to do to you, so also do you to them.

It is not natural to respond to evil with good, not to react to offenses and to give God the initiative when we are mistreated, offended, despised and persecuted. It is something supernatural, to which we must be prepared ... but as the Scripture says, in every situation of life, the just live and live by their faith.

And the best example of all, was the one Jesus gave us when he was beaten, insulted, scourged, and yet he did not do anything against all those who did it. On the contrary, he endured everything for the love of all of them, and for the love of each one of us. So this is the greatest sign of love and forgiveness.
